Another article without a single mention of the south west
The north south divide is so bizarre, as a Northerner, I thoughly enjoy banter with southerners over their choice of Curry Sauce over Gravy, that they can’t handle bad weather the same, and that maybe if they were more helpful with each other London would be a much nicer place,
But the flip side isn’t quite so friendly, southerners seem to struggle so much with Northerners for some reason, to the point of making some really strange comments
I just can’t understand what it is that’s conditioned some Southerners to believe some pretty untrue things about those of us from the North
> public spending per person was lowest in the East Midlands at £12,133 (10% below the UK average) and highest in London at £15,490 (15% higher than the UK average).
Unfortunately I cant find a more granular breakdown by county which would highlight the way regional figures for areas like the “South West” can be used to to cover up the lack of investment in counties like Cornwall.
Well of course it is. That was always known to be one of the most likely outcomes of brexit.
Customs barriers mean little for office work. They mean quire a bit for manufacturing.
When you alter salaries and pricing of goods and services based on geographical location in a country the size of Britian, what do you expect?
But there is a northern powerhouse now, bojo said so.

The Midlands getting completely ignored for the umpteenth time
The fact the super rich live in the south dramatically skews this. London is the place in the UK that has the richest people in the Country living right next door to the poorest.
The only divide is rich vs poor. All this north vs south shit is just an attempt at a culture war similar to the US.
London has all these advantages yes, but they’re mostly in service to the rich. They wouldnt let hs have buses and the tube if it wasnt helping the rich get where they need to and make sure their peons get there too.
North /south? Pah! I suggest Yorkshire & Lancashire, as an even more ridiculous divide.
> Despite Boris Johnson’s persistent levelling-up rhetoric
Levelling up is a dog whistle to wealthier communities that “we aren’t increasing your taxes to pay for shit”. The correct way to phrase this sentence is “Because of Boris Johnson’s disguised policy of doing nothing”.
Can’t be. The Tories went on and on about a “Northern Powerhouse” for years, which then became “Levelling Up” under the Johnson regime.
I mean, they’ve chanted “Levelling Up” enough times- surely it must have magically happened by now?
Anyway, “Boris” was well-known as a principled, trustworthy, selfless and loyal man when many voters in the Ex-Red Wall areas voted for him in 2019, so I’m sure he can be relied upon not to take their votes for granted and let them down.
I mean, it’s not as if there weren’t already countless signs back then that he might have been an odious, unprincipled, backstabbling sleaze who didn’t care about anyone other than himself.
I’d just like to ask (all) Northerners if they view the South West in the same way as the South East.
I feel like when we talk about the North/South divide we really mean the North/South East divide.
We don’t have things going anywhere near as well down in here in the South West as the South East!
It’s such a shame, we really are becoming a nation of two halves.
London used to be such a wonderful city, a capital we could be proud of with some of the richest history in the world.
Now it just looks like a public toilet. Why anyone would want to live there these days is beyond me.
I don’t believe in the North / South divide. I see myself from the West Country, so I hate all of you equally. 🙂
Cry me a river. The North of England supported the Tories knowing full well what they are like and knowing full well Boris is a particularly disgusting example of the breed.
I have absolutely no sympathy for the fools.
It’s far more complex than north-south. I live in one of the most southerly parts of the UK and it’s also one of the poorest. But then the south west is always forgotten isn’t it.
No shit. HS2 starting in London was a complete farce.

Can someone explain it?
According to the published [House of Commons Library Briefing](https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/sn04033/) the figures in this report are a bit misleading.
