Ahoj guys! I'm visiting Bratislava and am really enjoying your country 🙂
I visited Bratislavský hrad today and I and my family noticed this weird… glass window on the side of the castle. Genuinely, the only idea we came up with was that it was like that Pope balcony they got in Vatican to address the public, lol. Do any of you know what it could possibly be? Thanks in advance!

There’s a room that used to be walled off for centuries which preserved it from fire that destroyed the castle and they found it during reconstruction or something like that. No idea why the glass though. But the castle has also one of its original gothic windows poking out on purpose from a different side.
That’s the room where the monarchs of old did erotic shadow puppets on the wall. Kind of a medieval porn theater.
The castle got rebuilt few times and that specific area was rebuild from oriel window to regular one durring Maria Theresia reign. Then, when castle was rebuilt in 50s, they decided to return something like oriel window back so frescos preserved inside are visible.
That design is probably result of combining renesance oriel window into style of soviet brutalism.
On the first floor of the castle we have “reprezentačné priestory” – space only used for official diplomatic visits. They are always closed to visitors – the only exception being the 1st of September. The glass window you see is the last and biggest room of these representative spaces where they actually sit down and discuss/greet the visitors (recently it was the Slovenian president).
