Some young people planning fewer or no kids because of climate change

  1. We see a lot of this, but, often as not, I strongly suspect other motives. Refusing to bear children due to the climate mess sounds much more high-minded than refusing due to high costs in time and money.

  2. I think this is legit. This was in my mind in early/mid 2000s when deciding when to start a family.

Now, I know it is a source of stress for my 15 year old daughter even at this age- if kids/young adults are concerned about their own future I would certainly suspect this would play jnto decision on children.

  3. I’m one of them. idk if I still count as young from the perspective of the authors tho

  4. I’m old-ish (early Gen X) and I didn’t have any kids for this reason. My wife and I adopted instead.

Even there, though, there are days where I wonder if we shouldn’t have, even though she’s a pretty amazing kid. Her outcome would have likely been the same, more or less, but it would have spared us the grief of watching her try to cope with a world that’s increasingly hostile to her having a livable future.
