When you think they hit rock bottom, they are ready to go even further and beyond.
Here’s another lesson for you. After the USSR flubbed the Finland invasion, they actually learned their lesson. Germany thought the USSR would just fold but they had made changes that allowed them to resist and the beat the Nazis.
Our takeaway should be this, Russia is now effectively on a war footing. They don’t have to ramp up production for a prolonged war, they are already there. If they win in Ukraine, there is nothing to stop them from going forward. If Europe isn’t already ready for war, there will not be time to prepare before the Russian juggernaut hits.
They have already proven that they’re willing to lose as many men and as much material as they have to to wear down Ukraine. They are counting on NATO running out of resolve and Ukraine running out of weapons before they are forced out. The same will be true going forward. If Europe and NATO abandon Ukraine, who’s to say whether the NATO treaty is just so much paper? The proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Let’s just hope they don’t have to eat their words.
