I don’t want to end up with a failed system like they got in the US
Ew, no.
Imagine being in the same country with all those millions of Fr🤮nchies.
Hans can’t do it alone. Maybe we should send Kickl to the rescue.
Hans that would put us as the lucky ones with brexit then. Would never want to be in a Union state with Pierre
If capital and center of administration was Stockholm, sure. But Brussels? Nein, Non, No
I know we meming but taking a sober look at the current state of affairs one has to think it should have happened yesteryear.
no, fuck off with this stupid idea
Yugoslavia 2.0 coming right up
No, Because it could never be implemented to be “fair”.
I know we don’t get an opinion anymore, but I’m still voicing it anyway.
No. Have pooled sovereignty where it makes sense. Not some arbitrary federation that’ll just fall apart
The only way to be top 1 again is to make the EU a real country, because alone we don have enought demografic and REE power.
But i don want to have 6 finguers like the AI pic.
Yes. Of course.
With China as a superpower and Usa going to shit. It’s inevitable. It’s what the politicians want maybe not the citizens. Barry got out early, rightly or wrongly.
A war or something will be a great time to attempt it.
But Hans, how can we stay superior France if we all regroup and become Europe… No more arrogant french rioter ? That’s not an option.
Why would you not all become France instead ?
Let’s call Europe a country, give the provinces extensive self-determination rights and regularly discuss possible cross-provincial regulations in Brussels.
great idea and a huge step forward
~~Fourth Reich~~
EU federation
Honestly? A dream. But we all know Hans would dictate over everything
I wouldnt mind, even just to see the bureaucratic shitshow. Bavaria is already part of germany, why not everything else
Who tf looks at the US and thinks yeah, I want to be a way more diverse and divisive version of that
Well that is a difficult question for sure. Would alcohol taxes in Estonia increase to Finnish levels? Hell no leave our Booze republic alone!
Would alcohol taxes in Finland decrease to southern levels? Well clearly its the only way forward.
Yes ! Would love to get more and more money for my unemployement and heroin addiction.
pros: infighting between countries vying for dominance in the eu parliament
cons: france
Yes, I’ll get even more free money😎🤙🏿
No. United army and foreign policy? Sure. Infrastructure? Definitely. But this is almost an entire continent, spanning many different environments, cultures, and languages. Laws that make sense in one place won’t automatically make sense in another and in the end it would just be Germany and France dictating their will on the rest of Europe. I think we should still all remain sovereign nations.
Watch The Expanse. Even in the best-case scenario where countries on Earth unite under the actual United Nations council, we’ll *still* find a way to bitch about those up-tight Martians colonisers and being racist to the poor Beltalowda being exploited in distant moons and asteroids, tolling and mining to make us richer while having never even stepped a foot on Earth after a few generations.
This sub is safe, copaigns
Wouldn’t this significantly depower Europeans influence in the UN, moving from a somewhat unanimous voting block to just one vote?
I assume a federal Europe would keep France’s veto
Let me ask, why should we?
Maby we need to test it first, on a small scale, maybe put te balkans together see what happens?
I mean if the state was decently well constructed and thought out, but that probably wouldn’t be the case
As long as the Catalans don’t get to be independent, go for it for all I care. It’s just spite at this point.
Sooner or later, the world either be in crumbles or unite under one system/country.
Imagine space travel, meeting alien buddies, and saying: “I’m from Cuntsville, GE”.
The aliens will be like:
“Fuck, there is an interstellar r/USdefaultism now”.
move us out to the middle of the Atlantic
It barely works in America these days where they all speak the same language, have pretty much the same history and back ground.
How the fuck would it work in Europe with different languages, cultures, histories. It would be an absolute mess of bureaucracy. There’s far to many weak countries in the Eu, you think people of Spain, Italy or Greece would get any say of what happened compared to the like of France, Germany and the U.K. when it eventually goes back? The smaller “regions” would get left in the dirt and money consolidated where it’s worth investing.
And for what benefit? And you think our vast differences would just go away and get replaced by solidarity? The infighting would be worse than it is now. People will still hold on to their cultural identities and resist having them eroded away because somebody 500km away told them they have too.
No , please stop asking me this.
Of course not.
With the same laws, police, courts, taxes and services?
Damn, finally we could compete on the same premises, showing who’s really pulling the load, and shutting down once and for all:
* Gunter’s delocalizations & ramblings
* Cillian, Jeroen & Zaren’s tax-evading schemes
* Pierre covertly sending illegal immigrants to Mario and Pedro
yes.
Please let me vote for non Italian politicians.
No, but I’m all in for more common policies. Let’s integrate as much as we can, but not merge. We are too different, we don’t even speak the same language.
No (but actually yes).
The EU was ment as an economic alliance it’s increased centralisation and assumption as a political role led to a stronger Europe on the world stage, but left members feeling like it’s no longer what they signed up for (resulting in Brexit and other secession movements).
Personally I like the idea of a European Federation, USA or German Empire model, but it should in my opinion not come from the European Union but instead from a separate organ perhaps operating inside the European union, so nations would not be forced to leave the EU if they wouldn’t want to federate, while keeping the option to join open in the long.
Still the question of “won’t it just be another German/French ruled megastate oppressing us” remains (and if not now maybe in the future when a demagogue seizes power). Although nowadays we’re all democracies, as seen in other examples historical and contemporary, it can lead to basically what the biggest/richest member state/ethnic group wants, happens (Holland decided a lot of the Republic of the Netherlands policy on it’s own, Prussia did the German Empire’s and Java(nese people) decide a lot of Indonesian policies, even in ancient Athens it was only a small group that made up the citizens that held the power with the majority of it’s population not having voting rights). However if all parties have to agree for stuff to happen you can quickly your state in a situation akin to Austria-Hungary, with the kingdom of Hungary blocking fun things like colonisation or stopping a German unification led by Prussia by helping the French.
Likely an internal conflict will loom each time regional for example economic differences are at stake (like the abolition of slavery caused in the USA) with the questions of how far should the federal power go. If kept loose the state might find itself in a situation like the Holy Roman Empire, with each state doing whatever they want and the central government trying and failing to implement the easiest of federation wide changes, if kept too high we’ll definetelly have a civil war of our own, or atleast a secessionist movement with enough clout that eventually we’ll go our separate ways like Czechia and Slovakia did.
TL; DR: I’d like it personally but boy would it be one pain in the ass, I pity the people that would be put in charge.
