  1. So was the person arrested the driver ?

If so it sounds like they used their brakes failing as an excuse to get out of it (which has failed)

  2. > arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing a public nuisance

Sounds like they didn’t find any fault with the car then

  3. A friend and I were chatting about this the other day and we both felt like the story was nonsense. I’m glad it looks like our bullshit detector isn’t off.

So much would need to go wrong for this to happen. Will be interesting to see the outcome.

  4. I guess his insurers will be looking to recover the costs of the damage to the police cars before too long as well.

  5. Shouldn’t it be in quotation marks if they want to imply they guy was lying?

    “failed”

  6. Seemed like BS at the time.

Now it seems like either an insurance scam or someone trying to undermine electric cars.

  7. There would have been no way for police to safely box the car in from 90mph with no physical damage to the cars unless the car was on radar assisted cruise control. That much tells you it’s bullshit.

Plus the fact he miraculously didn’t hit any outside or middle lane hoggers when doing 90 *before he called the police*? It’s complete bullshit lol. The car was radar assisted the entire time.

  8. JLR have a team of engineers who check these kinds of claims. They’ll pull the logs from the car and know exactly what happened from multiple points. For example, they’ll have several data sources for if the brake pedal was pressed and even more to tell if that demand was accurately converted to braking force.

He’s public dragged jaguar through the mud so they are going to be very motivated to uncover what’s happened. If he’s lied they are going to come down on him like a ton of bricks – he’s caused significant damage to their reputation. If there is evidence he’s in a world of pain now.

  9. Accelerator got stuck at the same time? What absolute shite. Couldn’t lift off the throttle? No handbrake? Just turn it off? Jaguar inspectors gonna make him look an even bigger fool.

  10. Think this guy read the story about Craig Phillips’s car brakes failing on his Jag and figured he could take a chance

  11. The brakes couldn’t have been affected by an electrical problem and the same guy had allegedly had the exact same problem, in the same car, which jaguar poked around and said was fine.

  12. Wasn’t the car driver the celebrity DIY Craig Philips ? I’m sure he went on to make a few rag articles about this ‘ordeal’.

I wonder what PR or stock damage this did to jaguar?

  13. There seems to be one of these runaway car dramas every couple of years, and every time the driver turns out to be an attention seeking maniac.
