Ireland could save 19% more lives by starting mamograms for women at 40. Sweden does this bc they look after their women. We could probably save even more women by using risk assesment tools. Why don’t we?

I used the risk assesment tool and I am high risk- with a 27% lifetime chance. My mother had breast cancer at 49. I won’t get a mammogram until I am 50 here. I have approximately 5% chance of getting breast cancer before then.
That makes sense. I’d imagine it isn’t rolled out yet due to the cervical cancer scandal. If the HSE offers mammograms and something is missed, they risk litigation. HSE is burying their head in the sand as usual.
Sorry to hear how some of the delays in this country public health is affecting you.
One thing that may help you is the self-touch exam, where I come from they would even advise and teach to do it on yourself always, to search for lumps and all, on television ads.
Most likely you can find on YouTube videos about how to do it, and once you find a lump your gp will direct you to better exam and proper treatment afterwards.
I had lumps/cyst in my body before and that’s how it went.
There’s a link to the Risk Assessment Tool mentioned by the OP here : [Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Tool](https://bcrisktool.cancer.gov/)
Public misunderstanding of cancer screening in this country means it’s difficult to introduce or extend programs. A senior consultant I know said that he doubted we would ever see a new screening program in this country.
