Holy moley we are getting a rocket factory! Right here in Sydney! There are two Australian Airforce bases west of Sydney, RAAF Base Glenbrook and RAAF Base Richmond. Such a factory would also nicely fit in with the new mega airport (with a whopping 4.3km/2.7m runway!) we are getting west of Sydney, nice fresh civilian infrastructure to support a rocket factory. The new airport is called Badgerys Creek, no joke.
Yeah great how long are these going to take to enter service?

Good on you mate!, as a Canadian, I’m envious of your future missiles factory(s) and wish we could also participate more in the defence industry against Russia and any other future threats.

I would like to see we add some 155 mm shell production as well. We need to become more self sufficient due to our long supply chain.

I currently reading a book about the materials production of the United States in WW2. Seeing that we can’t even ramp up enough artillery shell production domestically, let alone build the ships, tanks etc needed… is pretty sobering.
And I understand the war footing the US was on is different now than in the 40’s. But I still can’t see ever getting close to that again.
I’ll believe it when I see it. Over a year ago they were talking of a french/ Australian 155mm shell production facility in Oz. Australia produces a lot of “dynamite” but setting up manufacturing or value adding to the metal resources that get shipped in ore form to China or India is too much work. To be honest, I am kind of embarrassed to admit I live here regarding the “assistance” this country has given to Ukraine. 100 second hand APC’s. Pathetic.
This will be great and allow western democracies to provide military support to Japan, Taiwan, Phillipines etc against Russia, North Korea and China ….the Axis of Evil!
We definitely need to do more here in Australia.
Some hundred Himars, with tausends of rockets could solve the war…

Not surprising. We’ve been beefing up U.S. bases here the last few years to help with any CCP caused problems. There’s a very large patch of land in the middle used for testing military kit. We hosted sub comms and satelite stations during the cold war. As far as I can tell we’re prepping for a hot war with CCP/China so some early skill/capacity building is welcome.
