  1. >Geert sees a pattern in the people who come to him. “These are people who are stuck and can no longer move forward in their lives and who attribute this to the presence of a superhuman force,” he explains. “We live in uncertain times. People have less stability and it is more difficult to give things a place.”

Religion should not take advantage of weak people that have serious or mental problems.

“Exorcism” should not be just explained as a regular or normal practice. It should be denounced as a false pseudo-therapy. We are in a non confessional European country where people with mental problems should be given decent psychological or social care instead of religious rituals. At least, a public media like VRT should give other critical opinions as if they were speaking about homeopathy or any other pseudo-science.

  4. I allready can predict whan the next issue of SKEPP is going to be about, i’m looking forward to read it

  5. Weird article, the Abbey or Catholic Church weren’t given the chance to explain and instead they went for a historian and an anonymous (?) exorcist.

Exorcists in the CC are subject to really rigorous rules and have to always refer people back again to psychiatrists, unless it is proven beyond doubt that it cannot be scientifically explained. I can’t find anything back about this in this article, it’s also really really unusual that a priest would opt for anonymity, especially within the order of Norbertines. Also 1000 exorcisms per year? Really? Not even the US reaches those levels. Someone at VRT didn’t check their source lmao
