Im pretty sure Netanyahu ended his own government by causing protests all summer last year, failing to protect israel in the fall leading to a massacre and now a war.
Our history of overthrowing right wing zealots in the Middle East doesn’t have a great track record but in this case I think it’s worth a shot
No…really, they’ve never done anything like that before.
I only fucking wish this were true. Fuck Bibi.
The Senior Israeli official apparently has terrible reading comprehension. Here is the portion from the report they are claiming the US is trying to overthrow Netanyahu:
*Netanyahu’s viability as leader as well as his governing coalition of far-right and ultraorthodox parties that pursued hardline policies on Palestinian and security issues may be in jeopardy. Distrust of Netanyahu’s ability to rule has deepened and broadened across the public from its already high levels before the war, and we expect large protests demanding his resignation and new elections. A different, more moderate government is a possibility.*
Nowhere is there any implication that the US will cause it facilitate this. It’s just pointing out the fact that Netanyahus government is faltering, which they are. I wouldn’t be surprised if this “Senior” official was Gvir or Smotrich, or one of the people from their party.
Go ahead and read the article; the Israeli official is commenting on a CIA intelligence report which states the Netanyahu government is on shaky ground. The “attempted overthrow” is a memo.
The Biden administration has been leaking like a sieve about how displeased they are with Bibi’s prosecution of the war, but I don’t think Netanyahu is going to get much mileage out of that, because the Israeli people seem pretty displeased with him as well.
Also, not that this needs to be mentioned, but one of the biggest reasons the United States has supported Israel is because they’re the only stable Western-style democracy in the region, **de**stabilizing Israel is the exact opposite of the United States’ foreign policy goals.
>“We expect our friends to act to overthrow the terror regime of Hamas and not the elected government in Israel,” the official said, in reaction to the annual Threat Assessment report which warned that Netanyahu’s coalition could be replaced by a more moderate one.
That’s a weird way to phrase that
Which means the Biden Administration is NOT happy with the current far-right elected government of Israel. Which means the Biden Administration will support a challenger to Netanyahu reign in the upcoming election if one presents itself.
You know, something a little less brutal than what is going on.
That’s how I read that anyway
Netanyahu’s facking right wing government is the source of a continuous shit tornado in and around Israel.
Yes please replace them
This is a good one we are going to have the russian propaganda arm both cheering and condemning the US at the same time truly hilarious.
Bibi was a corrupt piece of shit that was trying to be the Israeli Dictator
Why would you believe ‘senior Israeli officials’ from the same government saying this
It’s an obvious attempt shift blame and the oldest strategy of dictators world wide
Who would want to take over right now? They aren’t going to change stance on the war. Better to let Netanyahu take all the blood on his hands before he’s kicked out.
Since it’s officially a coalition government that includes the opposition, that means that the US is trying to overthrow Israel’s government.
That has never worked out well for the United States, as far as I can recall.
Bibi’s doing a good enough job undermining his own government – the US doesn’t need to bother.
Netanyahu overthrew himself when tried to overhaul the judicial system.
If that was true, it would only take about 5 minutes and one phone call. It would go like this “US will no longer run defense in the UN and will stop all logistical and military support…or else”.
Actually that’s more like 30seconds. My bad.
I wish

Netanyahu needs to go but I don’t think he should be overthrown by the United States, or any other country. It is up to the Israelis themselves to find a political solution to this.
Fuck Netanyahu. Come on Israel you can do better than this dirt bag.
Netanyahu essentially overthrew the Israeli government and is desperately trying to have power. All the Biden admin is doing is very lightly trying to treat the Palestinians like humans and Netanyahu can’t even handle that.
The easiest way for America to undermine Bibi is to unilaterally create a Palestinian. His coalition would fall apart it two seconds because that’s what they are coalescing around, taking the west bank brick by brick. Israel is not going to fight America for it. And if they do, then they show their true colors. Time to call their bluff.
Israeli official should keep quiet and not put forward accusation like that.
Bibi is on borrowed time in power, once Hamas is eliminated and the war is over elections will be called.
The sooner the better.

He’s got like a 15% approval rating in Israel. He did it to himself. This will be his legacy
Ah yes, the most heinous way to overthrow a ally’s shitty giverment: Let the shitty goverment screw itself over and piss off the ally’s citizens.
I mean, it worked for Poland
Good.
Netanyahu is bad for absolutely everyone involved, israelis included.
C’mon America, do the thing.
Most Israelis also want him gone.
Bibi doesn’t need our help. His government will fall on its own.
Let’s hope so
If only!
Doubt it, but nothing gets better until he’s finally gone.

The US wouldn’t try. The US would succeed.

Here’s the link to the report, actually some pretty good info in there: https://www.dni.gov/index.php/newsroom/reports-publications/reports-publications-2024/3787-2024-annual-threat-assessment-of-the-u-s-intelligence-community
