  1. ***The Telegraph reports:***

Geert Wilders, the Dutch radical anti-immigrant leader, said Wednesday that he would not be prime minister despite his [stunning election win in November](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/11/22/anti-islam-firebrand-geert-wilders-wins-dutch-election/), due to a lack of support across the political spectrum.

“I can only become prime minister if all parties in the coalition support it. That was not the case,” Mr Wilders said on X, formerly Twitter.

“The love for my country and voters is bigger and more important than my own position.”

The announcement came on the eve of an eagerly awaited report on Dutch coalition talks, amid speculation of a breakthrough that could result in a technocratic government.

Kim Putters, the man overseeing the negotiations, has said the bickering parties were ready to take the “next step” after two days of “good and intense” talks at a country estate.

Mr Wilders posted on X that he wanted a “Right-wing cabinet… less asylum and immigration. The Dutch come first”.

Party leaders have been tight-lipped during the process but public broadcaster NOS reported that the most likely outcome for Thursday’s report was an “extra-parliamentary” or technocratic cabinet.

It is unclear exactly what form this could take, but it is expected that four party leaders will serve as MPs.

  2. Wilders says he thinks it’s unfair they don’t let him be prime minister. Which means the longest serving MP in our second chamber either doesn’t know how things work in this country or he’s just trying to rile up his intellectually challenged voter base. I’m going with the latter.

Edit: intellectually challenged _and_ butthurt, it seems.

  3. Hahahah. Facist fail. This is the way, incidentally to deal with them. Just refuse to engage. Engagement and news coverage is what created the Trumpanzee.

  4. That’s too bad. He could have formed government with VVD and ChristenUnie

  5. Apart from the whole “racist bigot” thing, Wilders lacks the formal education to be an effective prime minister.
He’d be in over his head in the first month or so.

  6. Weird how anti-immigration people keep getting voted into power or gaining power in various countries.

Almost like large amounts of people see what is going on and are tired of it.

Almost like certain immigrants from certain areas bring their problems with them.

Almost like certain immigrants from certain areas refuse to assimilate and play nice with the local culture and customs.

Rape gangs in the UK and Germany are indeed a thing among other crimes, it isn’t the locals doing these particular crimes either.

The vocal minority on reddit will continue to think the echo chamber here is a representation of the majority of people though, and I will be downvoted to oblivion because of it, but you can not silence our votes at the polls no matter how much you would like to.

  7. “Rival parties” they’re not rivals. They’re trying to form a coalition which is quite the opposite of a rivalry.

  8. Who’s downvoting everyone calling out Wilders for being a fascist?

That’s what he is, ticks all the boxes. It’s not all jackboots and frogmarching.

It’s the real spectre that haunts Europe and always will because it’s the logical conclusion of our inherently right wing thinking.
