I’m stupid, what bird is this exactly? It was rather friendly but didn’t assault me for chips like seagulls.

  1. It’s a rook, same family of birds as ravens, other crows and jacdaws. You’re rarely more than a few hundred meters from them in Ireland I’d reckon

  2. A rook.

As long as he doesn’t come tap tap taping at your chamber door

  3. That’s Quote. nice guy. He’s a Raven.

    Quote the Raven, that’s him.

  4. It was friendly “but didn’t assault me”???…. Did you want the Rook to assault you??? 😂

  5. I’m surprised he was so friendly. The rook in my garden is so nervous he probably meets the diagnostic criteria for an anxiety disorder.

  6. These comments are a source of delight in a dark day!

  7. It’s a Rook, they are more of a country bird, they don’t go into towns that much and mostly stick to farmlands. If you see a crow in a town it’s probably a jackdaw, they spend much more time around people. They are great fun to watch in town because it’s almost like they have manners and can operate around people while not being noticed much.

  8. Looks like attempted murder to me. You’re lucky he’s got no friends.

  9. It’s a rook!
My favorite bird. The logo of my company is actually a rook. I think they look like fancy crows.

  10. Rooks, crows, ravens and magpies could probably make their own chips.
They’re extremely intelligent birds and rather unlike gulls.

  11. That’s a rook, a type of corvid (crow). They can move as far as they want but only on an X,Y direction, very valuable in the end game period

  12. Just showing off that beautiful spot you found, don’t you?

  13. Hooded crow or rook. Very common bird here. They’re extremely intelligent too.

  14. That’s Gary. He’s mostly harmless. Mostly!!!

  15. That is the common eagle, well known predator of cats, children, fish and morons.

  16. It’s a rook, a type of crow. Crows are quite intelligent and can identify individual humans over time. There’s more than a few stories of someone befriending a murder (the best group noun!) of crows and even being gifted their Ill-gotten gains (they love shiny things!)
