Back in the days politics were also shit and Reagan found some poor woman doing bad things and held her up as a “welfare queen”. It worked extremely well and racists still use the term today, nearly 30 years after the federal government ended cash welfare.
But obviously any group of people has bad apples. One bad person receiving welfare doesn’t mean welfare is bad. Poor people in the US are poor as shit because we gutted welfare.
