Who is the middle lane for?

  1. Ah yes, a dedicated lane for playing chicken. Very thoughtful of the council that

  2. It is for overtaking. This sort of layout is very rare these days, just to say they used to call it a ‘suicide lane’ for a reason. Given where it is, it is for a tidal flow for events?

  3. Shared lane, both directions can use it.

As it looks like you’re outside some sort of venue, I’d bet organisers move cones around so there are 2 lanes heading inward before an event, and then 2 outward lanes after it ends.

  4. This is Lakeside, Portsmouth. I work there

The middle lane is used by traffic at busy times of the day. Morning is two lanes inwards. In the afternoon is two lanes coming out

  5. People who want to get into a car crash in slow motion

  6. I heard old roads used to be like this, but never saw one… as you can imagine it wasn’t ideal.

  7. I used to work here, it changes depending on the time of day. During the morning it is two lanes entering the site “Lakeside Northarbour”, in the afternoon this switches to two lanes exiting the site.
