Are there places in Sweden where forests look like this? Mountains are not necessary. This is Alaska, at the same latitude as Östersund (63N). Using google maps it looks different, but I’m curious for the knowledge of the locals.

  1. I’m planning a fishing trip to Sweden, and these spruce forests as in the photo have such a mystical draw for me. I will love the fishing trip anyway but if it can look a bit like this I would be very happy. Thanks for helping.

  2. Try looking around Kittelfjäll, Borgafjäll and Åre. Pretty similar.

  3. there is, but the government wants to turn it all into a vanadium mine

  4. Where forests look like pine forests? Yes, we have a few of those. Had the mountains been necessary, it would’ve been a bit trickier, but I think we’d still have some.

  5. I live in Östersund, this picture could have been taken a couple of km north if the village Rissna except the mountains, they are further west.

Here you got coordinstes 63,0688400, 15,3476761

You can clearly see the similarities on Google map satelite view.

These are fish you could catch there: Grayling, trout, whitefish, pike, perch.

  6. So, you’re referring to spruce forests? That’s pretty much ubiquitous in Sweden. Or are you specifically after those elegant and slim towering spruce trees, complemented by the lush undergrowth and a serene grassy river, exactly how it looks on the picture? I doubt it.

  7. Very much scattered all over Sweden I would say. Satelite will take you far with this one. Mountains however is further up

  8. If you keep on heading west from Östersund you will hit the scandinavian mountain range and there you’ll find a lot of places that looks just like that even with the mountains in the background.

  9. The western halves of Västerbotten and Norrbotten would be a good place to look and I’ve heard the have good fishing. Jokkmokk, Arjeplog, Storuman or Tärnaby. Can access by flying to Stockholm and then to Luleå or Umeå and take a car from there.

  10. You can never go wrong with visiting Jämtland 😉

  11. Just look up any “fjäll” and you will definitely not be disappointed

  12. Pretty much anywhere in northwestern Sweden will look like that.

  13. Living today in Östersund, but I’m from British Columbia, the forests here are great but as other posters have stated the biggest difference is that basically all forests here are young and planted for harvest, at least when it comes to the Spruce / soft wood. The west coast of North America has loads of old growth (Natural forests) that give off a more “alive” eco system. With that said the epic things here are the spots over the treeline in “Highlands” or “Kalfjället” but that could just be me.

  14. Well half the country looks somewhat like this. Especially along the east border to Norway.

  15. I grew up around Östersund. In 2019 I went to Alaska on a vacation. My impression of Fairbanks was basically, this looks like home, but there’s a Taco Bell (2 actually).

  16. Yes, if you told me that was Sweden somewhere, I’d believe it.

  17. This is a guy that makes a lot of nice outdoor content, very nice channel overall, but he has a series called “the large forest adventures”, basically focused around old non planted forest (“urskog”), all of them are great and there are definately a few very similar to this feeling.

Here is the link to the specific playlist:
