I suspect we’ll see more cynical moves like this from the Conservative government to appeal look to their core voters after the abysmal poling they received.
To be fair it does need reform…but not in the way I expect them to do it.
Bringing back the old favourites. How long before he starts talking about flat screen TVs?
Considering the fact that his religion has been discussed in the media (and I wouldn’t make any comment on religion if he or his colleagues hadn’t; see telegraph article titled “Rishi Sunak: My Hindu faith guides me in every aspect of life”) in light of the rampant racism problems in the Conservative party, what does Hinduism say about helping those less fortunate than yourself?
Ahh getting the last punches in on the vulnerable before they have to go back to hitting the servants
When my wife and I started claiming DLA for our son, there was no requirement for me to work. My wife was the carer, but I wasn’t able to sign on and look for work.
It was really causing my mental health to decline. I joined some groups with other parents in the same situation, and they were all just sitting at home playing computers and had given up trying.
They really need to add some requirement for the non carer parent to find work.
EDIT: For all the experts on benefits, knowing it all and living it really isn’t the same. We don’t all have 1000IQ and have all the skills.
I’m not complaining that we didn’t get enough money. Our son had everything he needed. We got too much. We don’t all want to sit at home, but we don’t all have the ability to make that change.
When he started school, we didn’t have much we could do during the day. That was when I joined the fb groups.
The system needs change!
Yes, disabled people are having it so good right now, what with the rampant hunger, struggling to keep their vital medical equipment running given high electricity prices, suffering as the cold inflamed their illnesses.
They really deserve to have that cut.
Kicking disabled people is not the election winner he thinks it is.
Scorched earth. They know they will be decimated. So they are cutting everything so they can bleat about labour spending as they fix the cons shoddy work.
Won’t need support payments to the disabled if we keep them in corporate workhouses eh. That way the money can go straight to the most deserving, the poor shareholders. Not wasted on individual needs, like food and adapted environment. Bonus, unlike judicial prisoners, there’s no parole outside of miracles either. Tories, keeping the unproductive out of sight and turning the grindstone
They way they treat people with genuine disabilities is already sick. Even with proof from multiple doctors they are refused. It’s all about profits. Dehumanising and humiliating.
I’d rather be dead then disabled in this country.
What the fuck has gone wrong on in someone’s life that they think this is a good idea!?
Good old eugenics by the back door being pushed further.
WORK IS FREEDOM
I don’t give a fuck if Sunak wants to spend money on a rocket to Venus at this point. They will be gone by June.
Autism? Severe Social Anxiety Disorder? PTSD because of shitty police work?
You better show up to this yearly meeting where we’ll talk to you like you are lying otherwise we’ll cut all of your benefits.
Sunak either knows no one with disabilities, or has never had a conversation with someone they do know about their disabilities, or merely looks down on people with disabilities as an even lower class of people.
Helping people with disabilities is one of the best things that comes out of my tax payments. And I really don’t care if the odd few cheat the system so long as the majority get the help they deserve.
I want to lead a fresh assault on politician and specifically Tory spending. They don’t deserve anything, not even a salary at this point. Get them tf out of office.
Meanwhile, at the hearing they are about to attend…
“The UN’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) says disabled people across the country are being denied their basic human rights. These include some disabled people lacking proper access to food, water and sanitation.”
“I’m going to do the same & worse” isn’t the answer they’re looking for.
Conservative cruelty really does bring shame on us all as a nation.
They are after zero seats. If they’re so concerned about working aged people being out of work then they should invest in healthcare and social services. I bet a great many of those 2.5 million too sick to work are also one of the 7 million on NHS waiting lists. Bring that waiting list down and you’ll bring down the number of people on sickness social security. Cutting already meagre social security payments isn’t going to touch the deficit.
Bring on the election. The tory party is history.
Tory polling suggests that there is 46% support for making people who are unable to leave their homes due to mobility or mental health concerns look for work they can do at home – whilst 38% oppose it, hardly a ringing endorsement. In all their polls this is the only one that vaguely supports Tory welfare agendas, of course they’ll grab at any straw for even a whiff of extra votes.
All current welfare polls say benefits are too low, people need more welfare support, the minimum wage for 18-25 should be increased, families need more help, and that the tories are handling the benefits systems badly.
But this understanding doesn’t seem to extend to disabled people who are viewed as having an easier life than everyone else, despite the drive to throw as many active disabled people off disability benefits as possible and the excess deaths this caused, despite all the reports about inhumane and unlawful treatment by the govt, and despite there being real barriers to work for disabled people, not least because employers discriminate against them.
And now inactive disabled people who are so ill that they can’t leave their homes are going to be treated the same. Where is the fucking humanity in all this?
Obviously, this is more serious to Rishi than £billion of Covid fraud he oversaw as Chancellor.
Stuff like this is why I’d never vote Tory.
I do think they should make it possible for people to be able to work legally (at least part-time) while claiming disability benefits though – as there are times when it is better and worse, and work itself can help provide a bit of community and extra money.
My mother had Lupus, and in the end it was really bad – and the extra stress of having to go to other towns just for mandatory meetings with non-doctors for benefits assessments was crazy. How much money do they waste on that when you already have doctors signing them off and granting prescriptions?
Let’s see, I’m free on 2nd May… turns out I’m in a polling booth anyway. It would be easy for me to cast an other vote while I’m there with 40m others across the land?
How about a fresh assault on these bloated c*nts in office
Do we suddenly have fewer disabled people in this country now? Have their needs gone down? Shortfalls in care and spending need to be addressed, but I’m certain the Tories don’t mean that when they say it needs to be reformed.
They’re so evil and contemptuous that they can’t help but believe the majority of the UK must be that way too and so they’re trying to drum up some silent majority by being the baddies
Stuff like this really makes me think they are attempting to appeal to the lowest common denominator so when they loose awfully they can run their campaign on
“The liberal woke left rigged the vote we need to fight back”
They are hoping for the same farewell tour as Trump had but without realising that they don’t have the rabid fanbase that will support their every whim
should be a requirement for the party leader/s to go live on disability/benefits. no additional help, just for them as if they were a single person. for at least three months too so they can feel the squeeze of fun decisions like “rent or food”.
It’s like there aren’t already thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of disabled people already unable to get benefits.
When you are the party of attack. You never fix issues you just attack them.

I wonder if he’ll do anything about ensuring the [£19 billion unclaimed benefits per year](https://policyinpractice.co.uk/new-analysis-missing-out-19-billion-of-support-goes-unclaimed-each-year/) get to the right place.
He’s copying Labours rhetoric now? Cool stuff. [life on benefits under Labour will not be an option says Liz Kendall](https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/mar/04/life-on-benefits-under-labour-will-not-be-an-option-says-liz-kendall)
Fine, stick you batshit plans into a manifesto.
Get a mandate then implement your plans
