How Much Does the U.S. Depend on Russian Uranium?

  1. But the fact that Russia was the largest foreign supplier doesn’t actually mean U.S. depends on them. There are other suppliers.

  2. And the uranium from the Netherlands is only for medical and science purpose. Not sure if you can even use that for other things.

  3. Data doesn’t match EIA figures. [Canada, which has large, high-quality uranium reserves, was the largest source of uranium purchased by U.S. nuclear power plants in 2022 at 27%. Kazakhstan was the second-largest source at 25%, followed by Russia at 12%.](https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=60160)

Like not even in the same ballpark. Why is there discrepancy?

  4. How does Germany supply enriched uranium to the US? They don’t mine any themselves.

  5. 12% germany? wow.,.. there is no uranium mine left in germany.

Did not expect so much concentration in germany, especially because the population dont like nuclear waste.

  6. It doesn’t actually matter… in our globalised free market world today, just stop buying from them and companies in other countries will naturally step in to fill the void if the demand is there and there’s profit to be made.

  7. It’s not that hard to just create your own enriched uranium industry and import the stuff from non-shit countries like Canada and Australia.

  8. It’s not as bad as it looks. With Uranium you have plenty of time to change your suppliers. because it burns so slowly. And US may have a considerable amount of reserve because its so energy dense.

  9. Count other as russia because they have strategy of getting other countries mining through proxy firms registered in third countries

  10. How the fuck is germany supplying uranium when we do not have uranium mining operations?

  11. If they’re also importing from Germany, the UK and the Netherlands…where is all that uranium coming from? While much of the UK’s raw ore comes from Australia and Canada, some of it comes from Russia. I assume the same is true of Germany and the Netherlands. In other words, more than 24% of America’s fuel is coming from Russia really, it’s just not being refined in Russia.
