UK politics: Labour deals blow to Tories with two byelection wins

I do hereby declare that Damian Egan is jully elected thank you I’d like to say thank you to the residents and people of Kingswood your honesty your frankness has helped keep my campaign rooted in the issues that are really impacting our community it’s a trust that I promise to

Repay to show you that politics can be different and it can make a [Applause] difference I am honored that local people have placed their trust in me and the labor party under Kia starma but I also know from the thousands of conversations I have had during this campaign how desperately people want change and a fresh start for our country the people of Wellingborough have spoken

For Britain this is a stunning victory for the labor party and must send a message from Northampton share to Downing Street

Labour has secured a double byelection win in Kingswood and Wellingborough, where the party achieved a 28.5% swing from the Conservatives – its biggest over the Tories since 1994 and the second biggest since the war. Along with the victory in Kingswood, the party has now made six byelection gains since 2019 – the most it has ever made in a single parliament.

  1. Turnout was 37-38% in both.

In Kingswood, Labour got less votes than in the 2019 GE.
The Tory vote went down from 27,000 to 8,000

In Wellingborough, Labour got 100 more votes than in the 2019 GE.
The Tory vote went down from 32,000 to 7,000.

    Tory vote stayed home…

  2. So now watch out for the Tory bribe of tax cuts! Ready for the next General election. And then after, if the Tories win, massive public service cuts that will make austerity look like a Wild spending frenzy!

  3. Five out of six people chose not to vote Labour.
For every one who cast a ballot, two others chose not to.
