My local doesn’t open It’s doors until 10am and I support them in that decision, what would you be doing in a pub at 6am?
I was watching this on rte news now and a headline in the corner was “housing block closed of due to covid in Hong Kong”
So i dunno man I feel like its naivity to think this cant get worse.
Delighted! Honestly I’m just happy I’ll now be able to walk up to the bar and order my own pints.
Hopefully restrictions aren’t going to be reintroduced in the next few days and weeks. I’m cautiously optimistic.
We’ve done everything we possibly can… This had to happen at some stage and with vaccination numbers as high as they are, this is as good a time as any
Immunosuppressed, the type that makes vaccines work less well, so a bit worried to be honest. Had been working hybrid the last while but get the feeling will have to go back to full time in the office, I won’t enjoy that. Had to happen eventually and happy for those that have struggled with restrictions but hope people will be mindful and respectful of people that are more vulnerable.
At least we finally flattened the curve
Frankly it seems like a mad dash to follow the British ‘Operation Pretend Covid No Longer Exists’, but it wouldn’t be the first time the Irish government tried to ape the British government.
Most annoying is the rush to throw the baby out with the bath water. We’ve learned a lot of good things from this pandemic, so it makes no sense just to abandon them just because ‘normality’ demands it.
We have a lot of good science now behind the effectiveness of mask wearing, for instance. We also know that a lot of jobs can be done just as effectively from home (if not moreso). Ditto good hand hygiene/etc.
And we’re meant to just abandon all this overnight? B*llocks IMHO.
About time. Honestly. I don’t think it’s too early because we’re now 2 years in. This situation can’t continue any longer. Most people are vaccinated and that’s the best we can do. There’s no miracle solution, but shutting down the economy isn’t going to change anything at this point. I don’t think restrictions will be reintroduced. Most European countries have reverted back to a somewhat normal state.
I don’t care much for bars / nightlife, but it’s good to finally be able to have a “normal life” again.
I noticed that RTÉ have stopped sending out the daily numbers through their app since yesterday.
I don’t know if I’m ready to adjust to normal life again, honestly
We’re still in a pandemic and being asked to “respect” the remaining guidelines but most people won’t give a fuck. I personally think it’s hasty but I’ve my own routine, I keep myself to myself, wear a mask etc. If there’s another variant that comes along and it’s worse than Omicron, we’re fucked, but hopefully that won’t happen.
At least I can still swear at people under my breath without been seen for a little while longer… but the social distancing in supermarket cues should remain, not even as social distancing just as stay the fuck back please, I’m trying to buy apples in peace.
They are already about to get battered when the elections come around, then you add in the minimum price hatred. I reckon there is even more shite coming our way and the easing of restrictions is an attempt at damage control.
I know why Boris is doing it. He needs to distract from the parties. What’s Micheál trying to make us forget?
Longest two weeks of my life.
Honestly I’m immunocompromised and a bit terrified of going from all to nothing so fast. Delighted for the majority but definitely scared.
Don’t blame it on the sunshine
Don’t blame it on the moonlight
Don’t blame it on good times
Blame it on the boogie
Scared, i’ve a newborn and now the cases are gonna rise to serious amounts. I think it’s too early. Half the country is still riddled.
Not happy about the back to the office craic. In college, but have no desire to spend years trudging to and from an office. Remote work >=50% of the time should be the standard. As long as the work os done to a standard shouldn’t matter where it’s done
Don’t want to go to office at all.
The next big thing as I see it will be pubs/restaurants closing themselves because they *can’t* trade. Sounds mad, I know
Im originally from Ireland and living in Australia for the past 10 years, they’ve opened things right up down here for a while now and a different problem is happening: hospitality staff are getting sick in droves. Pubs and restaurants can’t find (non-sick) staff and are closing their doors because of it, a few for extended periods, a few for good.
The difference is that because everything is wide open now, there’s no business support available any more from the govt for them, and if the staff get sick and they can’t open, that’s the venue’s problem. They haemorrhage cash without support and not being able to open, and a different issue arises.
Get yer pints in though! Love an oul pint.
I have a chronic lung disease so you can imagine how scary covid has been from my perspective but GAD DAMN am I glad to see the back of those restrictions. So much sacrifice has been made. Its time to carry on
Can Irish people just treat each other with kindness and humility…yeah it’s been hard..I’ve learned a lesson ….let’s change this fuckin country
Well, no more hiding from friends. It has been a jolly two years for me. Thankfully the mask business is here to stay so I can continue to hide my random redners In public.
All messing aside, it’s great news.
Honestly delighted. The only restriction I’d like to stay permanently is masks on public transport as a non-negotiable. Before the pandemic every year I’d get really bad coughs seasonally from Dublin bus. Maybe in the height of flu season people could choose to wear masks in other public areas too.
I’m nervous to be honest. I feel like it’s very fast and sudden. My wife is pregnant with our second and she’s already been put through the wringer with various non-covid infections we’re afraid of her getting it as her lungs gave her grief when she was young. My nearly two year old son goes to Creche too and he was also getting everything bar covid so it’s only the last few months he has been good and healthy. I’m scared for them getting a tough variant.
I’ll try be positive in that we are triply vaccinated and it’ll be nice to have that bit more freedom and visit family members without feeling like we are doing wrong, it will give a lot of people a serious lift but I will be keeping my guard up as much as possible.
Glad to see a glimmer of hope.
But I’m calling it now, the misery apologists will be at the whole “ah, the government did a great job really”, “it wasn’t that bad” and “uncle Tony sit on my knee” before the weekend is over
It will be a nice 6 months.
I think Omicron spread even further and faster then anyone predicted. It got on top of our systems during the peak of the wave, but they recovered fast.
The upshot of it is, NEPHET witnessed their doomsday scenario, but the sky didn’t fall. In turn we got a massive, likely unquantifiable, saturation of mild disease which has strengthened the nation as a whole.
So now the fear has been somewhat abated, and we have a strong immunity in the population. Bit of a perfect storm so they are seizing the opportunity and I think rightly so.
I’m an idiot by the way. This is just an observation.
Is anyone else not even a little bit suspicious and confused that all of a sudden restrictions are completely being dropped? The world was apparently ending the way people were going on the last 2 years, people not able to see their dying loved ones because of restrictions etc. Now all of a sudden it’s all fucking good!?
Honestly there putting too much focus on nightclubs. Get the schools sorted first, gyms then sporting spectators and pubs. Then nightclubs
Ireland has had some of the longest and strictest lockdowns not even in Europe, but the world. Not sure another country in the western sphere has sacrificed as much. Fair play lads and enjoy

I honestly don’t give a bollocks anymore
