Diane Abbott snubbed by speaker in PMQs debate on remarks about her

Later today AB Mr Speaker despite serious opposition from the Archbishop of Canterbury three for home secret thank you Mr Speaker Armed Forces no Mr Speaker the late party will not be sticking to his completely unfunded 46 billion it shamefully took him more than 24 hours to finally say

The Commons speaker, Lindsay Hoyle, has sparked a fresh row by refusing to allow Diane Abbott to ask a question during a heated session of prime minister’s questions, which was dominated by discussion of a Conservative donor’s comments about her.

Abbott had sought to ask a question throughout the 35-minute session, during which MPs debated the comments made about her by Frank Hester, the Conservatives’ biggest donor. The Guardian revealed earlier this week that Hester once said Abbott made him ‘want to hate all black women’ and that she ‘should be shot’, comments the MP has called ‘frightening’.

Hoyle provoked groans in the chamber, however, by ending the session without having called on her – even after the Labour leader, Keir Starmer, and Stephen Flynn, the Scottish National party leader in Westminster, both used their questions to raise the controversy.

  1. We need a modern Parliament building like the EU/Scottish houses. Ours is not fit for purpose anymore, we need to modernise if our voices are to be heard through our MPs.

  2. Maybe the MPs are as sick as the people listening to her going on about the same thing year after year after year. “I am black, I am a victim, racist, racist, racist” blah blah blah. Like a scratched record.

  3. Yes, the same man, The Speaker of The House, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, who only 2 weeks ago came back into The House and made an 'impassioned' speech in Westminster saying that his reasons for breaking Parliamentary convention ( and that he'd make ' no apologies for it ) earlier in the day by denying the SNP their rightful alloted Opposition Day, sidelining they're Gaza ceasefire motion in favour of another Party's was because his priority was 'the safety of every member of this house, no matter which side' and that he feared ' getting a phone call to hear that an MP had been murdered' could not bring himself to call the victim of this to speak.

Well, we already know it was a lie 2 weeks ago because he didn't think it was necessary to say that when he initially made his call on that motion.

But what some of us suspected at the time – and now know without any lingering doubt after his disgraceful, cowardly behaviour today – is that he has placed MPs and, most particularly, Diane Abbott, in mortal danger and is prepared to be calculatingly complicit in any attacks of violence and abuse she may now receive.

  4. Maybe hes just balancing things out for the blatant display of corruption a few weeks ago which saved his party from a massive rebellion?

  5. Everything in this country now is to do with identity politics. Whole swathes of parliament time is taken up discussing Islamophobea, racism or anti-semitism instead of putting the country right. The TV and radio are totally consumed with racial issues. If there's any message countries like Poland and Hungary should take from the British experience is don't go anywhere near mass uncontrolled immigration because multicultralism does not work. it's just one problem after another do not visit what we now have in Britain on your citizens because the benefits don't outway the constant hassle.

  6. Is there any issue, any video, anything where Diane Abbott and the words race, racist or racism aren't mentioned? Can anyone help here? Diane helps a sealion by removing a nail from it's flipper maybe?

  7. What a muppet show – They all runs country. I fear for Diane Abbot’s life and that of my other Black sisters. Labour and Conservative are full of it. Stamer really stands for nothing in particular and is the best Labour has to offer.
    Roll on election day

  8. What really needs to happen is that MP's who care about democracy and the function of the House need to make a very visible stand against Hoyle. What they should do is go to the Commons and as soon as Hoyle opens his mouth they should all stand and turn their backs on him and refuse to engage with him and keep doing this as long as needed till he gets the message and resigns.

  9. Racism, sexism and misogamy is alive and well in 21st Britian. From top down. Forget Andrew tate our elites display worse behaviour

  10. If you wish to catch the Speaker’s eye to speak in a debate in the Chamber, you should write to the Speaker in advance. You should also write if you wish to speak in a Westminster Hall debate of an hour or more in length. If you have not written in, you may still seek to take part in a debate by approaching the Chair or trying to catch the Chair’s eye during the debate, but those who have written in advance will usually be called first. Adding your name to a notice of motion or amendment is not enough to indicate an intention to speak: even if your name is on a motion you should still inform the Speaker’s Office if you wish to take part in a debate

  11. It’s a shame they would not let this woman have a say, I have listened to her brilliant highly intelligent interviews on the economical projections of hiring 10,000 new police recruits for £100,000. We need people in government only if it is for the entertainment content of listening to her knowledge.
