  1. Ten years ago, on March 18, 2014, the soldier Serhii Kokurin was killed. He was fatally shot by the occupiers, two bullets hit him, one in the head and the other in the chest, during the assault on the 13th photogrammetric center in Simferopol. Kokurin was stationed on the observation tower of the military unit’s motor pool at the time.

Kokurin is the second victim of the Russian annexation of Crimea and the first military casualty in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

At the time of his death, the soldier left behind a 4-year-old son and his pregnant wife, Olena. Following their departure from the occupied Crimea to Odesa, Olena gave birth to a second son, who was named after his father.

The soldier, who served in the military in 2014, was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage” III degree.

  2. I take comfort in knowing that all the servicemen of Ukraine, whether combatant or not, no matter what rank or role, will be known & remembered as heroes equally when this war is over.

    Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦 🇬🇧
