Hey, Surinam speaks (a form of) Dutch as well.
That’s a good thing. We wouldn’t want more people speaking dutch, would we?
We found that it was a lot more effective (read: Profitable) for the few Dutch rulers who went somewhere to learn the language there than to teach the natives Dutch. The best example might be Indonesia, where there wasn’t a single language, and we just did all official business in Malay. Nowadays Malay is the national language of Indonesia.
And unlike Spain and Portugal our main colony didn’t have their population die out due to diseases.
