It’s been a great help for young people in Scotland. It would be great for Wales to follow suit, but of course, budgets are quite tight right now.
I’m very much past my 20s but could imagine this being great for that group. Let do it and help them get into work, travel to see friends, play sport. Might mean not having to buy a car
Of course we are going to need more buses and times run but let’s invest heavily in public transport
It would be nice if the busses ran on time first before they start giving away free travel
Younger people being freed of the burden of needing a car for work would be good.
Although better cycle lanes would give them more freedom, and probably cost about the same.
Interesting report! The Welsh Gov plan to franchise all the bus routes in Wales under TfW starting next year, I think, with an aim to increase frequency and add routes in underserved areas, I wonder if they’re looking at this as a requirement of getting a franchise contract
Of course. The actual fair income is always way smaller than people think. Best get rid entirely.
I think so, with driving now too expensive for that demographic we will need alternative transportation options for them to be facilitated to find work.
This is especially true in rural Wales.
All we’d need then would be some busses, ours all got cut including bwc a bus.
Call me a blue sky visionary, but outside of densely populated and urban areas, buses should be free for everyone.
In most cases they’re slower, less convenient, and less comfortable than using private transport. So nobody is gonna pay more to use the service.
in theory this would work out great for the under 22’s and over 65’s all getting bus travel for free but wont it jack up the prices for anyone not getting it for free or place a huge financial burden on local councils that cant currently afford it ….. or am i missing something
