NYT just did an hour long pod on why birthrates the world over are down. I think they actually said ‘climate change’ one time, briefly talked about angst about the future, and skipped right back over into nonsense. Like the whole world stopped having kids because the young American generations are having a problem grooving to it, and birth rates are up in Africa so there can’t be any larger explanation. Cheese. This is how you ‘cope’ – explain it away in one fashion or the other while pretending you are doing otherwise.
It’s best to keep in mind that the climate is always changing and it’s nobody’s fault.
Consider the fact that all of the natural world north of the Canadian border was covered in an ice sheet a mile high a mere 12 thousand years ago. Humans have always been coping with dramatic changes. What’s abnormal and wrong is for us to expect the climate to stay just how we like it and imagine we are somehow responsible.
There is a saying: “It’s difficult to get a person to understand something when their salary depends on not understanding it.”
I lost it when this person said climate fears are really fears people in the global West have of the world sliding into a post-colonial world. Right.
This person also needs to put breadbasket failures, mega fires, and the 6th mass extinction onto their burners. Anyone who claims to be aware of the threats of climate change, but ignores these, seems to be engaging in hopium or is gaslighting.
Trash article…there’s a lot of hidden hopium. The author is claiming we could have less droughts and less hurricanes while the science doesn’t support that, bad faith articles like this are why I left the sub
