Whatever happened to Michael Smiley? ‘Tyres’ in ‘Spaced’ seems to have been his most well known role. Did he retreat from London back to NI or has he moved to behind the scenes stuff?

  1. I worked with him a couple years back, he’d a decent part on Bloodlands. Seems to get steady enough work, but bit parts and supporting roles rather than any main cast. He’s still in front of the camera.

  2. He has rolls I many a thing. Black mirrors white bear. The film censor and the like. Always nice to see him pop up now and again

  7. I once worked with a lad who claimed he was his nephew. The guy I worked with was a total bellend but thats no reflection on Michael.

    Interesting fact is he was Dr Evazan in the star wars Rogue One movie (The bloke in the bar that tells luke “He doesnt like you” then gets his arm sliced off.

  8. He was in the black and white film about the English civil war by Ben W (is it whitshaw?) + the Edgar Wright films and I see him popping up in things on tv too.

  9. Don’t miss his part in that Channel 4 thing, The Curse. I adore him, he’s in tons of things and brilliant in each.

    Dunno if you’ve RTÉ up there but he’s the lead, as a lugubrious and complex Victorian (*niche*) photographer in late 19th century Dublin: ‘Dead Still’. Cracking cast.

  12. He did a class radio documentary on the local rave/club scene back in the glory days of Kelly’s and The Arena. Would love to get a listen to it again.
