he would rather it be done with legalised drink driving
Are you right there Michael?
> It has previously been reported that the main finding of the committee is for assisted dying to be legislated for in Ireland, something Mr Healy-Rae personally opposes.
He can personally oppose it all he wants, he still has a job to do.
Without a shadow of a doubt. He personally disagrees with the finding of the report, and instead of doing his job as chair of the oireachtas committee in delivering the report as concluded by the entire committee, and doing so impartially, he’s using his privileged position to announce his dissent before the report is even released.
Not just undermining the report itself, but the undermining the entire process of oireachtas committees as a whole which are tasked with amalgamation of all the facts of an issue from all relevant experts and parties with legitimate vested interest. All of this due process: time, money, and effort to deliver a policy that reflects what’s right for our country, trumped (and I mean that in every respect) by entrenched views of a minority of oireachtas committee members.
He’s basically setting the role of committee chair to be used as a politically motivated position for a minority voice to kill or mark for death any future important legislation. By all rights he should resign. It is not for a dissenting individual to torpedo a key democratic process.
Apart from Healy-Rae once again making an absolute show of the voting population of Kerry, what he does after the report is published is irrelevant. Even when dealing with such a painful and sensitive topic, Dolly was always going to showboat, and this is just giving him a stage to do so, claiming to be ‘brave’ and ‘being a voice for rural Ireland’ while actually being an absolute grifting dickhead.
More fool Farrell for giving him attention; should have just laughed at him and offered to sell tickets at the door.
Ffs of course he will oppose this vocally and scaremonger his eejit conspiracy nut followers and voters into campaigning against the ‘mass murder of the elderly just like in Canada’ I believe this was predicted ted in this thread by someone a week ago when news of the report came out.
