I’d even argue that most Country counts as emo. Genre debates are never that deep but it’s just not Country anymore than Bluegrass is.
Texas Hold Em is fine as a 30 second sound clip on tiktok, but neither of these songs are good country songs in their full form.
Well, the first step would be putting out a good country song, not just putting on a hat and dropping the Franklin theme song remix

For me, country music stopped being country in the early 90’s. It’s all poppy BS with some country elements. So honestly it is not like this is some great big leap for Beyonce or any other pop star.

You can’t for decades make a big deal about how you grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood with nice cars and had a maid and wasn’t “poor like the Jacksons” (her quote) and then turn around and want to be a country girl. You aren’t automatically country because you’re Black and grew up in a Southern state. That’s not how that works.

You can point to race as to why she didn’t “feel comfortable” in country music and why Post Malone for instance would feel comfortable but I think at least part of it is southerners see though her only Texas for clout bullshit.
