Dine and dashers dragged back to restaurant by police to pay £300 bill they left

  1. Good.

We also shouldn’t be blurring their faces and hiding their identities.

Entitled people need to start realizing they are accountable for their actions, and reputable impact is part of that.

If they didn’t like their meals or believed that it was too expensive etc, fair enough, but there were more amicable ways of resolving the matter.

  2. Idiots, they were in Moffat which has a population of about 2500.

    EVERYONE knows everyone else.

If you walk out of the black bull without paying and staying in the town the owner can call his pals and ask where they went and who they are.

  3. One way to avoid the paperwork! It’s not bilking if you make them pay!

  4. I wonder how things are between the six who didn’t pay and the one who did. Must be a bit awkward.

  5. Just a thought, but rather than paying the fine – which is too easy if you have decent disposable income; it would be good to see these dine and dashers made to do pot wash for a week at this restaurant. Take their bins out. Clean the tables at the end of the shift. Make it so they actually learn their lesson.

  6. This happened 2-3 times every weekend where I managed, I was well known for running after people and they’d always play dumb and say ‘I thought I’d paid’.

  7. Not sure if this is the same group but someone left a review where the owner leaves a lengthy reply (comparing himself at one point to Clint Eastwood) explaining how the police were called on them etc

And then the original reviewer leaves another review to address the owner’s claims

  8. These people have no shame.

Last summer I was at a cafe for a couple of hours with a friend. The sun came out so we asked we could move to a table outside. We ordered more refreshments then as we were leaving we paid our bill. We were walking out and another waitress came running out shouting “Wait”. It turned out we were only billed for the food we ordered at our new table so we were effectively and unknowingly “dine and dashing” on the food we ate indoors.

I was mortified and apologised about 20 times and still think about it about twice a week over 6 months later. I would never have the balls to do it on purpose.

  9. Could have they been done for a criminal offence?

Or is it just a civil offence (unpaid invoice)

  10. They should make them do the washing up by hand for six months as well

  11. The pub’s Facebook post tells it ~~better~~:

    Edit: Tells it longer, anyway.

    >Good afternoon from The Black Bull Inn, Moffat.

    >Let me tell you about an experience we had last Saturday…

    >It was a very, very, busy day..

    >We were full by 6pm with every table occupied, streams of customers kept coming in, we accommodated some, others we turned away.

    >There was one booking I wish we HAD turned away…

    >A reservation for seven.. in the garden – clearly an error on a cold night, so we juggled our tables and moved it inside.

    >If I’d known what would happen I wouldn’t have bothered.

    >But, as we all know, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

    >The group were a bunch of guys away for a jolly, who seemed a little prickly at first, but settled down.

    >Enjoying their night out, they ordered lots of food and drinks.

    >I checked on them each time I passed, asking , ‘can I get you anything, is everything ok?’

    >‘Everything is great’ was always the response.

    >The men had starters and praised them, but after the main courses were delivered, things changed and they started complaining.

    >Well, six guys did – the seventh – seemed embarrassed and said he enjoyed his food.

    >Regardless, the others kept complaining, saying their mains were not good so they would not be paying!

    >They did have a couple of valid points, but the rest was exaggerated. It was time to make a decision.

    >They were the last table, we were about to close and I felt they had potential to be difficult.

    >So I chose the path of least resistance and took the six meals off the bill, reducing the balance of £400 to £300.

    >With the amended final bill delivered they got up and approached the bar – to pay..
    But they didn’t pay.

    >The group ringleader announced they would actually not be paying for anything!
    Nothing!

    >Not the pints.

    >Or the sides.

    >Not the starters they said they enjoyed.

    >No soft drinks.

    >No wine!

    >They had simply decided everything they consumed that evening was free..

    >As they argued with our 23 year old Front Of House Manager, trying to intimidate her, I approached.

    >I don’t like bullies and certainly not grown men bullying young women, so I went over and told them, yes they would pay.

    >And with that, the stand off began.

    >The nice guy – who had enjoyed his food – looked shocked and said ‘are you really going to do this to them!?’

    >He was not happy and quickly paid for his.

    >But the other six were not budging.

    >They repeatedly said they wouldn’t be paying for anything whatsoever..

    >Why?

    >Because – apparently there had been no ‘uplift!’

    >They said that ‘no uplift’ meant we didn’t make their night amazing enough to justify making payment!

    >What arrogance…

    >We endured their condescending diatribe for ten minutes, but safety comes first and as they were becoming rather challenging, I called 999..

    >As I was on the phone, one of the men laughed and said ‘you’re faking it’..

    >Until I handed him the phone and he quickly realised I was not faking it 🤣

    >His face paled and like the true cowards, folks like these are…

    >They all legged it!

    >Still owing £300.

    >But we knew what to do next…

    >We alerted, The Coachman Bar, over the road, told them the six were potentially on their way and described them.

    >It turned out the rogues had just wandered in… about to order, but John, the Manager, swooped, refused service, evicted them swiftly and told them to never return..🤣

    >Well done!

    >Pub Watch at its best!

    >Next the police officers tracked them down and when they explained they could face criminal or civil charges – even potential convictions..

    >The six suddenly decided it might be best to pay the bill.

    >So one by one, the poor bad guys were marched back to the inn, each would be villain flanked by two burly police officers!

    >What an embarrassing walk of shame for a bunch of arrogant idiots who thought they could take what they wanted .

    >Their plan failed..

    >But we did not.

    >We scored a small win for establishments like mine, and staff who deal with these incidents daily.

    >We took a stance. We didn’t back down and we never will.

    >As each individual tapped his card against our reader, glaring at us, diminished, emasculated, not so clever now… we just sat and enjoyed the show!

    >It was such fun!

    >We stood up to these men because we had to.. it was not just about the money, it was also about the principle .

    >And as my decent and extremely honest parents always drummed into me…

    >You do not steal.

    >Ever.

    >But as Saturday nights sorry situation showed..

    >Sadly, not everyone grows up with parents like mine.

    >Many thanks to John and all the team at The Coachman Bar for backing us up and standing with us..

    >We appreciated it!

    >Also well done to all our team who dug in and did not let these people scare them. Very proud!

    >And finally to the excellent police officers who were on our side from the start. Law and order at its finest!

    >Stay positive, safe and well today and every day.

    >The Black Bull Inn, Moffat.
