Not great news for Mallaig which benefits a lot from this. Let’s hope someone else can fill in the gap.
It’s a shame to lose such an iconic and quaint tourist attraction for the sake of pandering to idiots. If you open a door on a moving train then you deserve to fall out of it.
I wish to feck folk would stop calling it The HP steam train!
Because of woke, no doubt.
It is a bit strange, totally get automatic locking doors for modern trains, but fitting them to historic rolling stock seems quite extreme.
We have exemptions for safety on historical cars (seat belts etc) don’t see why we can’t for historical trains
Hopefully it gets back operating soon. A lot of mallaig businesses operate opening hours based on the Jacobite.
I went up there on the West highland line recently off season. I do feel like ScotRail are missing a trick with the “modern” trains going up there. More comfortable trains with a viewing car would make a mint.
Instead you get a class 156 sprinter with dirty windaes and seats like ironing boards for a 5 hour trip. It’s a beautiful route.
Same vein as closing the Radical Road at Arthur’s Seat. Only (as sad as that is) Edinburgh will be just fine while this will do real damage to Mallaig and Fort William.
So does this mean every heritage line from Bo’ness, North Yorkshire moors down to the bluebell line will have to be suspended too….?
good. we shount be supporting this terf hateful service.
