  1. Owen Jones income relies on him being an outspoken critic of the government. With labour looking like winning be had to quit to keep earning.

  2. >In his article Mr Jones attacked Sir Keir for ruling out bringing back the cap on bankers’ bonuses or introducing a wealth tax, as well as committing to “Tory fiscal rules that lock the country into dismal austerity policies that have delivered collapsing public services and an unprecedented decline in living standards”.

I mean, I don’t really disagree with the point being made here. The IFS have been pretty critical about how Labour and the Conservatives [are ignoring the awful fiscal outlook](https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/mar/07/ifs-warns-of-labour-and-tory-conspiracy-of-silence-over-future-tax-and-spending-plans) and Labour’s arguments about how Tory spending plans have so wrecked the economy that they must continue to be implemented doesn’t really make any sense to me.

But I also think that this story and its prominence has the quality of a press that is more interested in its house drama than what’s going on for the public they claim to serve and claim to hold politicians accountable for.

  3. I don’t disagree with his reasons, but now is not the time. The tories need a sound spanking, time to turn on Labour after they win, which they will. No sense in diluting the size of said spanking this time round. Getting the malignant cancer that is the tory party out has to be the primary goal here.
