I guess that’s ‘common sense’ if you’re glutinous and unprincipled.
We had a scandal about this once, I seem to recall.
Absolutely is common sense to defraud the public while in office, this is the purpose of being in the position, to cream it off the poors for your own financial advantage.
We don’t get rich spending our own money.
The Tory Party
Last year McVey wrote in the Daily Mail that she did not “want you to see a single penny of your hard-earned cash wasted on unnecessary public spending”.
I for one, actually agree with Mrs McVey, and I sure hope Mrs McVey agrees with herself too.
Two for one corrupt tories. Fucking disgusting and wasteful. No one can justify that.
That’s just common sense if you’re a Tory.
His position sounds like a Monty python joke.
Specious argument. It would be self-sacrifice to use an investment property instead of claiming rent.
If your bosses sent you to work in London, would you ask a relative to not rent out a property to save your company money?
Actually, having read the article, this isn’t as bad as it sounds.
We have two MP’s, claiming expenses on a single flat, a single time.
The MP’s aren’t *allowed* to claim the mortgage on the house they own, despite it being preferentially their parliamentary residence, and not super convenient for the houses of parliament.
So they rent a flat closer to parliament, and rent out their own property to cover the mortgage.
It’s not ideal, but if they could claim their mortgage on expenses, they’d do that, rather than renting the flat.
Most people would do the same, I suspect, in their position.
Just build dormitories under parliament and scrap this paying for people’s mortgages at the public expense.
He’s my MP, I’m desperate for him to lose his seat at the election, but it would take a huge swing away to do it.
They should kick the tennant out of the husbands house and she could live there when she’s in town.
Minister for what?
The dumbing down of British life is just insane.
This and the “Minister for levelling up” which is just bringing video game terms into politics to appeal to a sector of the electorate.
The impressive thing about these current tories is you can tell exactly what sort of cunts they are just by watching them talk for 30 seconds
We’re still paying their mortgage, it’s now just through a proxy tenant
It absolutely makes sense to take money away from the public purse like that when there are no ramifications for doing so.
Disgusting behavior
They just need to use that lovely barge as accommodation for MPs, save them the hassle of finding a place to rent and saves on expenses. Win/win really.
The *Minister for Common Sense* also draws a ministerial salary despite not making any announcements during her tenure…or uttered anything that could remotely be described as *common sense* in her life!
