Ireland lifting nearly all COVID restrictions from 6am tomorrow. No one expected this. Party time ….

  1. Finally, European countries start realizing that this measures-masks-restrictions situation has to end, Covid isn’t going anywhere, we have to resume our normal life.

  2. <sigh>
Not a fan of all the COVID restrictions, but the “party time!” business is exactly the worst thing to do. If you actually needed restrictions, going from full restrictions to drinking in close company with a lot of other people is a disaster.

Where is moderation in all this? Maybe ease off on being a mask or vaccine Nazi, but still avoid large groups and close quarters? Large groups and close quarters are just the definition of disease-spreading behavior, COVID or otherwise.

  3. Ireland had one of the strictest lockdowns in Europe, coupled with one of the highest vaccination rates. If anything, we’d err on the side of caution. But we were also among the first in the EU to be swept by the Omicron wave, and the first-hand data convinced our overly cautious experts that it’s safe to open everything again. I expect other countries to follow suit as soon as their Omicron wave burns itself out.

  4. Meanwhile in my country there’s still ridiculous shit like only vaccinated are allowed to enter a completely empty non-essential store with the covid pass. Or needing to be tested for public transport for non-vaccinated (as if vaccinated cannot be infected anymore). I’m going to get the booster as soon as I’m able to but I do hope sooner than later we will get rid of such restrictions as well.
