Well it didn’t take long for Putin to fire up the conscription engine after his election “victory”. If I was a male between “18-65” and not living in Moscow or St Petersburg I’d be taking yoga classes so I’d be well prepared to kiss my ass goodbye.
Fine. But beyond uniforms, and maybe AKs…what will they be equipped with?
The world wants to know, merely out of morbid curiosity.
But they’ll never get a paycheck.

Well, that was as predictable as the smell of shit.
Still, it’s bad news.
We have a term in English for this, we call such “the paper army”. Russia is already struggling badly to keep its units in Ukraine manned and heavily relying upon foreign “volunteers” – some of whom were “forcibly” volunteered, and mercenaries. 2 new field armies? Oh yeahhhh….
Every past conscription campaign has fallen well short – as in 50%+ short, of goals and none were so optimistic as to be manning 2 new field armies.
And then there is the issue of equipment. What are they going to fight with? Tanks, IFVs, APCs, artillery – all the major weapons of war are dwindling. Russia does not manufacture enough new armor annually to even equip 1 new brigade let alone 16. Their reserves are starting to dwindle – we see ample evidence on the battlefield of they shipping 1950’s-1960s era equipment: T-62 and T-55 tanks, BTR-50s and more.
Uniforms? The uniforms being provided now to conscripts are so poor quality – witness the video today of a ruzzian soldier burning alive due to his uniform on fire. A high quality NATO caliber uniform is extremely resistant to fire and rarely would light up like this. But it is becoming a common occurrence to see ruzzian soldiers alight when it was uncommon at the start of the invasion and their soldiers had 1st run uniforms.
I could go on but the point is this announcement is just more fluff – I think the goal is to attempt to “scare” the west or at least some portion of it. Anyone stupid enough to swallow this fine piece of propaganda please contact me as I have this exceptional bridge in Brooklyn that I can sell you real cheap – and its a guaranteed moneymaker!

Germans did that too,instead of rebuilding the units they have,because they can’t pull em off the line,they create new ones,putting a drain on an already undertrained,under staffed officer level. Watch I bet troop count on those new units will be lower than what they started with.

2022-2023 years show to Russia that West completely incapable for any initiative/”escalation”, only for extremely mild reactionary stabilization (~1,5% of NATO’s weapons; $120B spent on Ukraine vs $424B on Russian export).
Therefore from now Russia will only escalate. Up to possibility of Western cities nuking.
Unrealistic? In 2008-2024 years Western deeds showed to Russia that nuclear state cannot lose. Is so, why it should limit itself?
1936 year, in violation of Treaty of Versailles Hitler stationed extremely weak troops in demilitarized Rhine region -> zero reaction from the West -> patriotic frenzy of Germans and rise of revanchist sentiments
-> occupation of Sudetenland -> zero reaction from the West
-> occupation of all Czechoslovakia -> zero reaction from the West -> occupation of Poland -> WW2.
Because during Nuremberg Trial USA and UK ban any USSR criticism, mankind received extremely weak vaccination from WW2 root causes.
Therefore, in “2008 -> 2014 -> 2021 -> 2022 years” West repeated the same errors, and now nearing the same final result.
So many people here underestimate the damage that a bigger Russian army can do even if they are sanctioned to hell.
This is bad news for Ukraine and the west should respond with more technology to Ukraine and boots in strategic places first.
Even more artillery would be great.

So 14 divisions, 16 brigades, and two field armies on top, so another 2-3 infantry, a tank brigade or two and an artillery/AA/rocket/logistics brigade apiece as well. Another 10-12 brigades worth and the divisions are probably a pair or three too.
Considering they supposedly had manpower issues even before Feb 22, and their totally not serious losses in Ukraine, I’m sure they won’t have any problem filling these. Just conscript several hundred thousand men who totally won’t be needed in the economy and totally aren’t needed in the Army.
Should be a doddle equipping with those formations all those fancy new toys like the Armata family etc.
