Why Did Two of Judge Aileen Cannon’s Law Clerks Suddenly Quit?

  1. Because she’s a crony for Trump who should be removed from the bench?

  2. They recognize that she’s a sinking ship and jumped?

  3. They’re tired of googling her stupid law questions all day.

  4. >Clerks are more like a judge’s right and left hands—they help the judiciary conduct research, prepare for trials, and draft opinions.

If I had to guess, it’s because they’re sick of working for someone who is willing to ignore the law and past precedent because she’s obviously in the bag for a defendant.

  5. It’s only a matter of time until one or both of them end up testifying.

  6. Yes, a federal clerkship is *usually* resume gold, but what if something has led these clerks to believe that completing a clerkship under Judge Cannon might render them unemployable in the legal field?

  7. Here’s to hoping that it’s an indication that she did something particularly bad and is about to get in a lot of trouble.

  8. I hope the news media asks those people why they quit.

  9. They probably made suggestions for her rulings that she just plowed over with her mind-bogglingly stupid rulings.

  10. Well if judge Cannon is coordinating with the defendant the clerks may want to quit before they have to testify against their employer and be attacked by Maga folks when they have to tell their story. Probably not worth it for the resume credit.

  11. One was expecting a child soon.

The other likely left due to *unannounced reasons*.

***which meant the former clerk had enough of Judge Cannon’s bullshit.***

  12. “Sorry Mr Trump – this staffing shortage means I am going to have to further delay your trial by … 9 months? How does that sound?”

  13. Clerking for a federal judge is one of the most prestigious positions that a law student can have. Look at any high profile attorney in the news and they clerked for a federal judge. What are the former Thomas and Scalia clerks up to these days?

  14. They quit? Hmm.

You think maybe they thought they were actually trying to practice and follow the law only to find out they were apart of the Trump campaign instead?

  15. Why is this picture and the zoom meeting screen shot the only pictures the media uses for this woman?

  16. I hope she is caught communicating with Trump but is anyone looking.

  17. Please let there be talks of bribes and gifts and promises made between cannon and the Trump team.

  18. they realized they were clerking for an idiot political hack and that putting their time there on their resume would hurt more than help

  19. Maybe Jack Smith should talk to these two law clerks?

  20. The rarity of this happening twice cannot be understated. (DIL was a clerk for 3 yrs!)

  21. Probably because she’s unbearable as a person and only legitimate in name.

  22. I worked in a federal court for twenty years. No law clerk has ever left before their term was up, let alone two in three months (of the same term). It’s safe to say that this actually shocking.

Law clerks are essentially forbidden from interviewing for jobs during their term. They either have a post clerkship locked in before they start or have to wait until they leave to interview (everyone they interview with is a potential recusal conflict for the judge – so they can’t do it).

Two law clerks left with few options just a few months in. Either she’s a terrible boss, she hired bad law clerks, or her corruption offended them. I don’t see much else.
