I don’t want to pay into something I don’t know if I’ll live long enough to use. But if I opt to not pay into it, I won’t be entitled to it or get to use it if I get to that age

When SS was created by FDR in 1935, life expectancy for males was 61 and females 65. So the gubmint actually was gonna MAKE money. Now the life expectancy is 80+. Similar for Medicare when LBJ created it. So unless you raise the qualifying age or reduce benefits, the math doesn’t work
If you get the racists to realize the best cure to SS insolvency is making the millions of non-citizen hard working immigrants into legal payroll tax paying citizens, the program will become solvent for about 200 years. But that is not going to happen.
Democrats, did you know that, until 1983, Social Security income wasn’t taxed. Guess who sponsored the tax on seniors? Joe Biden!
