*BERLIN, Jan 21 (Reuters) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz turned down an invite at short notice from U.S. President Joe Biden to discuss the Ukraine crisis, German magazine Der Spiegel said on Friday.*

*Scholz did not accept the invitation due to a full schedule, including a trip to Madrid, as well as the desire to show that he was present as Germany grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Der Spiegel.*

*A government spokesman declined to comment on the report.*

*Both sides hoped now to organize a meeting by mid-February.*

  3. Ah yet another clickbait title to push the Anti German agenda here. It’s also pay-walled but I guess OP just cares for the sensational headline anyway. [Here’s](https://www.t-online.de/nachrichten/ausland/krisen/id_91521506/bericht-bundeskanzler-scholz-soll-treffen-mit-joe-biden-abgelehnt-haben.html) a German article, translation below. Summary:

    * He turned the short-notice offer down due to Corona to be near Germany and flew to Madrid instead

    * US and Germany are planning a meeting between Scholz and Biden

    * Scholze’s party is increasingly in favor of using NS2 as pressuring device against Russia

    >The chancellor was apparently offered a visit to Washington at short notice because of the Ukraine crisis. However, he is said to have turned down the meeting because of the Corona situation.

    >German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is said to have turned down an invitation to meet US President Joe Biden in Washington. This is reported by “Der Spiegel”. According to the report, the White House offered the chancellor an invitation at short notice in view of the Ukraine crisis. Scholz traveled to Madrid instead and justified his refusal by saying that he wanted to be present in Germany in view of the Corona situation.

    >In the meantime, however, both sides are said to be working on setting up a meeting soon after all. It is hoped to find a date by mid-February. Most recently, however, CIA chief William Burns is said to have visited Scholz at the Chancellor’s Office. The head of the Chancellor’s Office, Wolfgang Schmidt (SPD), and BND President Bruno Kahl are also said to have taken part in the meeting. Burns is said to have urged the chancellor to take a tougher stance toward Russia.

    >Resistance to Nord Stream 2 grows in the SPD
Voices are also growing in Scholz’s party to question the operation of the Nord Stream 2 Baltic Sea pipeline in the event of further Russian escalation. “If Russia attacks Ukraine, all options must be on the table, including Nord Stream 2,” says Katarina Barley, vice president of the European Parliament and the SPD’s EU representative. She added that one must “keep this bazooka up one’s sleeve.” Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht expressed similar sentiments: “If Russia unleashes a war in the middle of Europe, that must and will have harsh consequences,” Lambrecht told Der Spiegel, “that includes all political, diplomatic and economic options.”

    >Lambrecht had recently still warned against dragging the pipeline into the conflict. Scholz also spoke of the tube as a “private-sector project” as recently as December. During a visit by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg last Tuesday, however, he no longer ruled out sanctions on the gas pipeline.

  4. I wonder how many will actually read the article or just immediatly go on and let out their frustration.

  5. Biden should basically camp out in Berlin, in order to provide what ever meager assistance he can to heat pump, solar water heater, EV , battery , grid technology transfer and finance.

And just quit posturing about bridges in Pennsylvania.

He is a one term President pretending like he has 4 terms ahead.
