  1. > they believe the filmmakers should have used more traditional technologies or contracted an artist, called the usage of AI “depressing” and saying it “broke” their “heart.”

I get it. But this is the same stuff we heard back in the early 1980s with synthesizers. People were boycotting music with synthesizers, because it wasn’t real music wasn’t made with real guitars, didn’t have human drummers—computers could suddenly do the drumming. Now, nobody cares. In another few years, nobody will care about this either.

  2. Boooo. Get with the times already you greedy cave people!

  3. Get over yourselves. If you can’t recognise how ignorance rises every time something breeds fear, then you are sicking way too hard on media’s nipple. It’s a tool. Just like the advent of robotic car assembly, people went nuts over it, and now it’s a norm. If you don’t learn from history, you are condemned to repeat it. Meanwhile, normal people profit from the opportunity.

The reality is that it’s a smokescreen of bs created by toxic idiots, and there’s gold in there for all of us.

  4. Just another instance of people wanting to find something to bitch and complain about.

  5. If you’re boycotting anything based on such a minute detail, I suspect you had very little intention of watching it in the first place.

  6. I understand why people don’t like AI, especially with art but why are we going to boycott an indie original horror movie that’s used a few seconds of ai generated art?! Yes make it known you’re unhappy they used AI art, ask for an explanation so it sets a precedence but why boycott?? These greedy studios pump out the most asinine remakes year after years make billions of dollars, short change their SFX teams and you want me to boycott an original small budget films…. Because of three AI images?

  7. Ah idk. This movie isnt out yet but was screened in many film festivals in 2023, first in March 2023 I think. I’ve seen so many reviews of it that absolutely does not mention it. Until that one person pointed it out on twitter a couple days ago no review mentioned or pointed out the AI generated bits. It seems like it’s just a cutaway screen that’s on for like a couple of seconds around best. Should not affect your viewing experience.

ALSO, like I mentioned this first got premiered in March 2023 at SXSW. I know everyone getting angry about this will looove to tell you “I’ve known AI was bad since the very beginning” but it wasn’t until last year that the ethics of generative image AI discussions got started. When DALL E first got released (nov 2022) everyone enjoyed fucking around on it.

This movie was likely done/finished before concerns about generative AI became a mainstream concern . Even the director says they made the image through AI then had their graphic artists tweak it. Those frames did not steal work from artists who would have been paid. Artists did work and get paid for their work, just not in the traditional sense.

This is not done by a major movie production company, and it was not done as a backdoor way to make “AI art more normalized”. This is not like that glasgow wonka fiasco where the whole thing is an AI gobbledygook through and through. Boycotting this movie will not bring in more work for artists. Feel like this whole controversy is made up by people who wanna scream about how they’re on the good side

  8. I know some people are ok with it but those who are passionate on the subject take this news as heartbreaking. We’re taking away what makes us human and replacing it with technology that does the work for us. It’s only going to further drive us as a population to being more anti social than we’ve already become (recently due to social media and the pandemic). The way this is moving it’s gonna kill creativity completely and those who have the money to finance it will settle because it’s cheaper and isn’t as risky to take a chance on an artist who isn’t proven.

  9. Hold up. So the production team has stated they are for a fact AI generated images?

  10. I’m done with these anti-AI witch hunts. The vast majority of this movie is original with a captivating story.

It’s sad how many artists I see on Twitter have given up on trying to enjoy art/media because they’d rather spend every moment fretting over whether something might have AI in it.
