SNP urged to roll out scheme which sees Scots patients prescribed heating by doctors. The Warm Home Prescription programme pays to heat the homes of low-income patients to avoid the cost of hospital care if they became more ill.

  1. > A successful pilot project was run in Aberdeen last year which saw 500 households in the city take part.

    > A panel of experts on fuel poverty now believes it should be rolled-out to other parts of the country.

    > It comes after fuel poverty figures hit a 12-year high this month with increasing numbers of Scots struggling to pay their energy bills.

Here’s hoping that the zonal pricing that the UK gov are maybe considering goes ahead:

    * [Scots could have some of the ‘cheapest electricity in Europe’, says top energy CEO. The boss of Octopus Energy has said switching to zonal pricing would give Scotland some of the “cheapest electricity in Europe”.](https://uk.news.yahoo.com/scots-cheapest-electricity-europe-under-110625849.html)

  2. I hate that we’re talking about doctor’s “prescribing” money to pay for heating instead of making sure everybody can afford something as basic and essential as heating in the first place.

  3. Governments will literally do anything but tax energy giants

  4. Scottish government have no powers to tax corporations. The Tories have tentacles in the power companies & receiving donations. Once more Scotland’s government has to mitigate WM policy.

  5. Why on earth are doctors being asked to “prescribe” heating when we have no way of knowing what a patient’s financial or living situation is? Also don’t we have other things to be doing?

  6. Remember all the talk about the publically owned energy company that the Greens are no longer pushing for since they got two cabinet secretaries.

We probably need this, but should the focus not be on everyone being able to afford heating.

  7. Yeh let’s clog up the few GP appointments remaining with shite like this. This isn’t appropriate for a doctors surgery

  8. Sitting by the phone redialling the doctors number 300 times at half eight in the morning trying to get an appointment is a sure way to get a bit of heat in a person.

  9. How the fuck is this a GP issue, or even a payment issue? Address the robbing bastards running energy companies and legislate to get them back in their fucking box.

  10. “SNP urged” what absolute fucking drivel. How about you instead urge westminster to fix the fucking mess that is the energy market, which is the actual cause of the problem?

We are literally drowning in energy resources and yet we pay the highest prices and have high levels of fuel poverty, while the energy companies set record profits after record profits. As always, westminster’s guilty of dereliction of duty, if not complicit.

  11. I think this could be a good idea in tackling immediate need, but it ignores the actual sources of our problems, caused by the profiteering energy industry and terribly insulated houses.
