Ukraine said Russian oil refineries are legitimate targets after the United States warned Kyiv to halt drone strikes amid fears they could hinder Joe Biden’s re-election chances.
The White House had urged Kyiv to [stop attacking refineries](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/03/12/ukraine-two-russian-oil-refineries-hit-drones-petrol-crisis/), depots and storage facilities deep inside Russia because they could cause petrol prices to spike or prompt an [escalation from Moscow](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/03/21/kyiv-blitzed-by-russian-missiles-as-revenge-for-raids/).
In response, Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister for Euro-Atlantic integration, said: “We understand the calls of our American partners.
“At the same time, we are fighting with the capabilities, resources and practices that we have today.”
Mr Biden reportedly raised concerns with Kyiv that the bid to damage [Russia’s oil production capacity](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/01/22/ukraine-continues-campaign-against-russia-oil/) could have repercussions for his re-election campaign.
Washington had reached out to Ukraine’s SBU security service and HUR military intelligence over the recent spate of drone strikes. There have been at least nine attacks on major Russian refineries this year, which have caused crude oils prices to jump in recent weeks.

Unlike Ukrainian hospitals, schools or civilian housing that are indiscriminately attacked by RF military, any industrial facility inside Russian territory that provides the RF military with fuels, oils and lubricants is indeed a legitimate target.

Let Ukraine continue, oil and gas prices will probably stabilize after the initial shock anyway, the effect will be greatest internally. And if not, tough luck.

I mean, from my US perspective, I can feel the anxiety that Biden probably has with the oil issue, but if my life was on the line, I could care less what some foreign leaders polling numbers are… sheesh tough job. I’m glad I’m not in the position to have to make those calls.
Also makes you think how much ruskie oil is on the market that it could make a difference to world affairs. With all the embargoes their cannot be much in the western markets or am I delusional. Is ruskie oil as influential as ever. The problem is that the Saudis wont make up for any drain in production that the oil hits cause. Thats why the price is rising. Not because of the Ukranians action but because of the Saudis in Action
The only way such a request is reasonable is if the USA provide a magnitude of weapon so big and so much that Ukraine can dominate the battle field.

Ukraine: “Hey U.S., give us the 60 billion in aid you promised along with planes, tanks and ammunition, and maybe we’ll consider not striking Russia where it hurts, but we can’t make any promises since we have to defend us and they’re killing our civilians and destroying our infrastructure.”
The U.S. is unnecessarily prolonging this war while a quick clear cut victory for Ukraine would be a lot more beneficial in the long run.

Don’t listen to anything the US wants you to do as long as they themselves don’t do what’s necessary for sending arms and ammo to Ukraine.
