I hadn’t realised until that whole zonal-pricing-maybe-we’ll-change-it chat happened the other week that, according to the UK gov website, [a quarter of the UK’s renewable energy is generated in Scotland.](https://www.gov.uk/government/news/energy-secretary-takes-action-to-reinforce-uk-energy-supply)
“The cable will be capable of carrying two gigawatts of wind-generated electricity, enough to power two million homes for one hour”
When will journalists learn the differences between Watts and Watt-hours. It drives me crazy. In this case it’s a cable so has no energy storage. So often I read about new storage projects and I have no idea the size of the facility because they talk about power in Wh and energy in W. Arghhhhhh
This is great news environmentally.
I do wonder what the people of East Lothian (elec standing charge: 62.08p/day, unit price: 28.16p) will think of electricity going to County Durham (elec standing charge: 57.44p/day, unit price: 27.81p).
**Edit:** Especially after this article the other week:
* [Scots could have some of the ‘cheapest electricity in Europe’, says top energy CEO. The boss of Octopus Energy has said switching to zonal pricing would give Scotland some of the “cheapest electricity in Europe”.](https://uk.news.yahoo.com/scots-cheapest-electricity-europe-under-110625849.html)

In other news, UK (and the world) are fast running out of cables etc. to build all this infrastructure with…

Good to know while the old and sick freeze in Scotland we can give away our oil, gas and electric power. While paying over the odds for the wee bit we get to keep.
Viva austerity, Viva the Union!
All private sector companies transacting between each other for financial gain. It doesn’t BELONG to Scotland in any way.
is this counted as a Scottish export/
Huzzah. Now imagine if it was publicly or community owned…
£1bn per gigawatt fuckers. First they took our oil, now they’re after our wind!
