The Democratic Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer, has said Benjamin Netanyahu has emerged as a ‘major obstacle to peace’ in Gaza, in a further sign of growing tensions between the US and its ally Israel. Schumer, the highest-ranking Jewish official in the US, accused Netanyahu of bowing to pressure from ‘extremists’ in his cabinet and appealed to Israel to ‘change course’, warning that the US would be prepared to use its leverage to shape Israeli policy if it failed to do so.

  5. How are we going to tell another country what and who they do or who is in power. Nobody tells us what and or who. Nor would we allow anybody to dictate our policies. As allies we may make suggestions but another country is it's own policy makers.

  30. Rather than trying to justify your involvement in nation building, why don’t you just defund any possible aid to Israel, and while your at it, defund any possible aid to agencies that promote war and insurrection.
    This would make the world a better place, and all that money could be used to educate the American people, fix American hospitals, fix American healthcare.
    It’s a no-brainer.

  34. Netanyahu is leading the fight for his country. Schumer and other politicians should mind their own business. You can’t have peace anyway if the enemy is still out there and not yet defeated. Why can’t anti-Israel critic grasp this already?

    Seems there has been a shift. This is happening during a sharp split between Biden and Netanyahu after a DoD memo called Netanyahu “non-viable” earlier this week, US submitted a UNSC resolution calling for immediate ceasefire, and Chuck Schumer amplified calls for Netanyahu’s ouster.

    All of this as Netanyahu prepares to defy the world, including the US, and invade Rafah— a move which will have profound consequences, including potentially triggering a war with Hezbollah and crossing the sharpest “red line” established by the US in the campaign in Gaza to date.
