  1. So its really more that she considerers it unlikely that the public support for a NATO membership amongst the finnish citizens will become strong enough to clear the entry barrier during her term in office. Not that she personally will prevent it.
    Great headline Reuters /s

  2. Quite expected statement from PM of Finland. For decades in Finland roughly 25% of people have been advocating joining NATO and 40%-50% have been against it. Russians actions in Ukraine since 2014 has risen popularity of NATO, but not in substantial way. Also left leaning parties, which PM is part of, have usually been more against joining NATO. Its been right wing parties in Finland that have been more supportive of NATO, since they have been politically closer to US and many NATO countries.

  4. with conscript army it would be criminal to join a military alliance with countries like turkey and usa

  5. Considering how Russias last invasion of Finland went, them joining NATO would be a surefire way to win WW3.

  6. Considering the defacto leader of NATO, Biden, has dementia, it is better to be neutral. Seriously dude talks to Ninistö and says he talked to Sanna Marin. Be afraid of Russia but also never trust USA blindly.

  7. Is this at all surprising? Finland spent the entire Cold War being the neutral ground between East and west while still being in The West. Why would it do anything to fuck with that? Sure, maybe it aligns with her personal politics but also with majority opinion there for decades now.

  8. She should have shut her mouth.

Now her comment is played directly to Putin’s favor.

She is doing more harm to Finland than good…

  9. Well, she’s not wrong

I mean, why the fck would Finland want to join NATO since it’s not threatened by anyone? Just to piss off Russia and start being threatened by someone?

  10. Well obviously, her current term of office will end at the latest in spring 2023

Estonia entered membership negotiations in 1996 and joined finally in 2004, even if we definitely were joining as soon as possible it’s not going to happen on her current term of office. This statement means nothing at all.

  11. The Fins may have the second prettiest leader on Earth, but she still cannot compare to le Canadien heart throb that is Justin.

  12. May I ask why doesn’t Finland join NATO? I don’t really see any negative personally, unless you think that Russia would be suicidal and invade you first.

  13. But by being part of the EU, doesn’t that mean that aggression against Finland is also aggression against the other EU members?
