Any man and their dog could have told you for free that it was not viable.
Yet another reason to bin this useless wankstain.
Less than expected, but hey.. a friend of bojo made bank for what was non-starter idea.
..I should make friends with Tories… money to be made
It’s as serious project as the Helsinki – Tallinn bridge. Not with reporting.
Report: “hey Boris, this isn’t really going to work”
Invoice: £900.000.00+VAT
I could have done it for 100
I don’t get the anger?
Surely you want your government to constantly be exploring and researching new ideas that can benefit the country, whether it be research, infrastructure, social programs etc.
If this was found to be a viable idea, it would have created a ton of economic activity in the construction phase, perhaps enhanced our building technology and techniques, innovated in many different areas and finally ended up with a permanent piece of infrastructure which boosts the economies of both sides of it.
I’m sure the hoover dam was seen as a ridiculous suggestion at first. As was the motorway system. As were skyscrapers. As was nationwide internet infrastructure.
The point is, we expect our government to have big, bold ideas, then try to realise them. Sometimes it dosnt work. Sometimes it does and it enhances every aspect of our society.
Did they look at if we could use it for tidal power generation as well as run cars, vans and trains on it top too?
Aka, civil engineering isn’t cheap and requires a lot of skilled resource.
If the feasibility study revealed that the project should not be carried out, then it’s money well spent instead of throwing billions of pounds for something that is bound to fail.
I’m equally as annoyed at our current government as anyone, but such piss-poor attention grabbing headlines don’t do anyone any favours, except for the publication as they get all the advertisement money.
Also, £900k is absolutely nothing in the civil service and local government world.
christ you may as well have flushed it down the toilet
