  1. Amsterdam doesn’t have very high-rise buildings. The historical reason for the lack of high buildings in the Netherlands is the soft soil. Modern technology solved this problem, but at that time, relatively “flat” capital Amsterdam was built.

    The tallest building in Amsterdam is Rembrantd Tower and it’s the 7th tallest in Netherlands. All taller buildings are in Rotterdam, because in 1940 was utterly destroyed Rotterdam’s Old Town and so without a historical center there is no reason not to build high in the air. The city of

    Amsterdam wants to preserve its historic center, and builds high-rise buildings on the fringes:
    1. Zuidas, rapidly developing business district.
    2. Bijlmermeer, one of Europe’s leading examples of high-rise estates.
