Hamas, Qatari, US envoys in Cairo for cease-fire, hostage release talks | DW News

Targets well for more on this latest round of ceasefire talks taking place in Egypt let’s bring in journalist Karim algari in Cairo welcome um Karim who exactly is now taking part in these talks and what’s the latest you can tell us well uh we know that the delegation of
Hamas arrived here in Cairo for the negotiations there is no Israeli uh delegation yet quite some optimistic sounds from Hamas one of the officials said there might be a deal within 24 or 48 hours but there seems to be all kinds of last minute conditions and uh some
Minutes ago the CIS w’t even that the negotiations in Cairo might even break down well as we mentioned um according to the US Israel had already accepted the truce conditions that were on the table so what are the sticking points well first they agreed to the framework the framework is a six weeks
Truce and then the release of several dozen what 40 isra hostages in exchange for the tenfold number of Palestinians hold in Israeli prisons but I think there’s several stumbling stumbling blocks we have to deal with right now one of them is uh that uh Israel presented a list of uh
Prisoners they have they are not willing to release that’s the first stumbling block the second is that Israel is uh demanding a list from Hamas um who they going to release exactly who is alive who is dead and it seems like Hamas is saying that they’re going to provide
This list only uh when there is a ceasefire so a lot of stumbling blocks still to be moved out of the way there’s also been lots of talk about getting to a breakthrough before the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan which uh begins on March 10th or 11th depending
On the lunar calendar How likely is is a ceasefire deal by then well there’s a big pressure on all sides that this is happening of course Ramadan is starting the end of next week so um we have to see I mean as I said optimistic sounds at the beginning from
The US uh also from Hamas that there is a framework but the devil here uh seems to be in the detail and uh until now there is even no Israeli delegation that arrived here because they’re saying their conditions have to be meet met first that the Hamas provides the list
Of the hostages to be relieved released so there still a lot of work to do here in Cairo that was journalist Karim Al goari in Cairo for us Karim many thanks indeed for your reporting you’re welcome
Hopes for cease-fire in the Gaza war are growing with the arrival of a Hamas delegation for talks in Cairo. US officials say Israel has broadly approved a deal being presented to Hamas, which is considered a terrorist group by most Western countries.
Pressure is mounting for the meeting to result in a truce as starvation looms in Gaza. According to the Hamas-run health ministry, over 30,000 people have been killed in the territory since the war started. On Sunday, the Israeli army intensified operations in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis. It says it had destroyed dozens of Hamas targets.
For more on the latest round of cease-fire talks taking place in Egypt, we talk to journalist Karim El-Gawhary in Cairo.

Thought the US didn't cooperate with named terror groups! Why isn't the other side there?
No ceasefire until all hostages are released
DW dont show the INDIAN political map as it is. 😮
Dear DW:
1. The term used of “Palestinians held in Israeli prisons”- we are talking about convicted murderors or acts of attempted murder.. do NOT try to equivalate them to 11 month old Israeli babies kidnapped to underground tunnels
2. As the reporter stated -Hamas refuses to say the hostages condition (dead/alive) or even give their names so we will know that this time around they WILL release ALL the children, women, elderly and injured. The reason is a. unwillingness to commit without a “price”, b. way out from the deal while holding all the chips and per usual -c. pure cruelty as sinwar stated himself in the past , that in negotiations part of his aim is to brake Israel to pieces
3. Gazans are suffering by Hamas actions, the world should
Pressure on Hamas to care for its people instead of putting them in harms way
"Hamas, which is considered a terrorist group by most Western countries." Got to love how they always add that part whenever the name Hamas is mentioned. How come they never mention "The IDF witch is considered guilty of war crimes by most non-Western countries?" Would be nice with a little balance here.
Who is alive if anybody
US can finance the Gaza war and continued to veto the ceasefire. US voters must vote out Biden.
Its obvious Israel doesnt care about those hostages
They should send a reporter to cover the war in the comment section of every single video about Israel and Gaza.
They were dancing during 7th of October and now begging for truce
Let's hope this ceasefire falls through. It's only a trick by the Gazans. They cannot be trusted.
Israel has much more work to be done. The Gazans are in NO position to negotiate.
Over 25,000 women and children killed in Gaza since Oct 7, according to US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
Israel has corrupted the morality of the West. The West wants to defend its principles and morals, but it clashes with the morals of its ally Israel. He is forced to align himself with this ally and abandon his principles. Neither is he honorably defended his morals nor is he gaining the trust of the world.
AIPAC should be required to register under FARA…Stop foreign election interference.
If famine looms give back the hostages. What a joke! Hamas is full of it.
Israel is illegally occupying the West Bank and East Jerusalem, it deprives the native Palestinians of citizenship and this since 1967. Israel has to evacuate the West Bank along with the illegal settlers.
🙏🙏🙏
"Return the kidnapped people."
That is an outright lie. Israel did not ask for a list of who is to be released as the journalist said. Israel simply asked for a list of hostages who are still alive.
Any truce MUST include the Palestinians returning to their original lands in Jordan
Godless Isrel
how DW reporter pronounce KHHAMAAS! Is it Is'real-e origin?
Yasmin Porat survived October 7th and she stated that IDF killed Israeli captives (Haboker Hazeh radio program on 15 October 2023).
IDF killed 3 hostages in Gaza who were waving the white flag
"Britain had no right to give away somebody else's country" – George Galloway
75 year long apartheid, 16 year long blockade of Gaza and now committing genocide. Evil
The civilian casualty ratio in Gaza is higher than WW2. More journalists have died in Gaza than in any other conflict. Evil
According to Euro-Med Monitor, the civilian casualty ratio in Gaza is 9:1 (9 out of 10 deaths in Gaza are civilian deaths).
According to many sources, the civilian casualty ratio in WW2 lies somewhere between 3:2 and 2:1.
As of the evening of the 3rd, there was still no sign of the Israeli representatives.
3-3-2024 An Israeli official said there was "no Israeli delegation in Cairo," saying there was no reason to send a representative because Hamas refused to provide a clear list of hostages.
"AIPAC owns the US Congress" once you can wrap your head around this, the events happening now in Gaza make 100% sense.
Why can’t I trust anymore what DW is broadcasting . German free speech laws prevent trust!

Compared to the more dramatic and sensational news items which garner a lot of attention I find it somewhat peculiar to notice that any report on even a temp solution seems to attract far less attentions.
Then again, most people prefer to be fed with more negative news rather than more positive news, just because it gives them something to complain about and spread some gossip for more conflict.
Quite worrying to acknowledge that apparently this is the new common sense.
(me hearing myself complaining)
