> Germany loves peace, but paradoxically, its historically grounded fear of war could fuel a conflict if it weakens Western deterrence. For now, a change in policy looks unlikely
The main deterrent NATO always has had is the USA, France and UK and their nuclear weapons. And even within this group, the USA is so much more powerful than the other two. In any military conflict against NATO, it’d always be them responsible for by far most of the response (notwithstanding whatever NATO member would be invaded).
Hence, NATO has a strong deterrent because of the ridiculously powerful USA, France and UK together with much more industrial and military capacity that eclipses anyone else in the region.
I’d doubt the credibility of American resolve for NATO is in any way harmed by Germany not wanting to sell weapons to Ukraine. And to be far, no country in Europe is actively mobilizing on a large for war in Ukraine. If Russia invades, most of EU response will just be sanctions.

Ah shit! Here we go again..
Russia vs Germany.
Nah Germany isn’t going to go at it with Russia, Europe as a whole is not keen to go another round, that’s what put in is banking on….what will happen is sanctions and some time around the next presidential election the US will finally officially stay it’s civil war and put in will step in to help and Shazam ussr.
Let’s not forget China stayed quite clearly they are taking Taiwan back and anybody interferes it’s war so ya folks ww3 is already set to roll, and our uncle Joe sold is out long before now
Thanks to the same German attitude of appeasement, the rule of law has died in Hungary.
Considering the abysmal state of the Bundeswehr…for good reason.
Very objectionable title.
Germany is being cautious about the conduct not just of the R.F. [which is using the corruption and incompetence of Zelensky for its own purposes ] but also the alt right wing cliques not just in Ukraine, but also Romania, Lithuania, and Greece.
damn, y’all are going hard on the germany bashing.
Lighten up a bit, and if you know it better, go run for office and make a different decision.
In the summer of 2020, I spent two weeks at my parents’ in rural western Germany. I did a lot of hiking, and one of my tours led me to a former british radar post. It’s now a bat sanctuary, but before 1989, it was an integral part of NATO air defences.
Which means that the little village in the middle of nowhere would have been nuked into dust about thirty minutes after the shooting between NATO and the Warsaw Pact had started.
Germany would have been the main battlefield, meaning our country would have been turned into slag by both sides.
And everybody knew that.
Maybe that might explain why we are not too keen on going to war against fucking Russia.
Tbf not being afraid of war is fundamentally stupid
