Site in Nigeria’s largest City Lagos authorities hope their new ban on single use Plastics will help clean up this long-standing problem I remember this canal as a kid growing up now decades later it’s even worse most people agree that the problem needs fixing but not everyone is happy with the ban street

Food vendors say they’ve been hit hardest they use Styrofoam boxes as a cheap way to pack launches but it’s nonbiodegradable and says the State the biggest environmental Menace the vendors say they haven’t been given enough time to find Alternatives no I’m losing more customers some are using Lon to buy food

Which is not proper even the lon itself is dangerous for the health so tell me they they they should provide for us so to beting our business Lagos produces tons of waste daily some of the trash is collected and recycled but most of it is dumped without a thought for the damage

It does to the environment it is good as a council that one that’s disposable I mean that foing P it is good things that are causing erion and flooding in this lag Los island is basically about this park it blocks the go house and when people use in of them to dispose they

Don’t dispose it they throw it everywhere they see Bing it to me is not necessary although it’s really blocking the canal we can see it as well but it’s not necessary cannot work to me Nigeria is a major importer of plastics and many people people rely on plastic waste for their

Livelihoods environmentalists say the ban is a first step to changing habits and attitudes even in the process of banning styrofoams the transition has to be just but from our perspective it has to be first mental because as people change Behavior they will also change the way they connect with the use of

Plastic at different levels the conversation around plastic and its effect must be demystified people must see themselves in the conversation and own the conversation Lagos State says it will back up its ban with checks on producers and Distributors along with fines to help pay for the cost of cleaning up

  1. This is the best news of the year for me! God do we overuse plastic??? Yes we do! You are given so many plastics in the market that it is sickening.
We used to recycle, we had special leaves for wrapping food… healthier, cheaper and better for the environment! We called it Eweran… I am from this part of the world, so i am delighted!!!

  2. Whats the point of banning them in one state….knowing nigeria and corruption…..its a smuggling opportunity….ban it in the whole country and enforce the environmental authority…..it can be done and people will see the possibility and positivity

  3. I've been to Lagos yes there is too much trash everywhere so it is a step in the right direction. Nobody wants to live in a garbage dump. and its not just styrofoam but also plastic bags, cigarrette buds, plastic bottles and even drinking cans cause drinking cans even have a small layer of plastic inside to protect the can from rust. Not a lot of people know this and think it is just metal but that is not true. Plastic is everywhere from our shoes to a pen, our clothes, electronic devices, food package, toys, you name it. It's too much people need to realise that 80% of this plastic goes into nature and pollutes.

  4. ALL SINGLE USE PLASTICS SHOULD BE BANNED GLOBALLY, ESPECIALLY WHERE THEY ARE MADE. Excellent decision Nigeria . . lead the way. Thank you from NZ.

  5. Nice, well done Nigeria!! Don't listen to the nay-sayers. Everyone knows it's the right thing to do but most people are comfortable in their trained behaviour. Changing behaviour is never comfortable. Stay strong and persistent and turn it into your advantage on a world stage! 💪

  6. There are alternatives that can be made from potato and cornstarch. The whole world should follow suit.

Also, street food could be wrapped in large leafs of non-toxic plants. Or recycle paper.

  7. This sudden ban approach to things in Lagos though. I won't be surprised if this ban does not lead to any lasting positive effects.
