Finland’s sub-zero weddings under the northern lights | Focus on Europe
When visiting the solitudes of Lapland be sure to dress warm! Up here, above the Arctic Circle, it’s normal for temperatures to hover around minus twenty-five degrees celcius. Nonetheless, it’s exactly where Lisa and Paul Förster want to be. Resorts like this can be real love nests. Couples in particular are drawn
To the north of Finland to sleep beneath the northern lights. We’re really hoping that they’ll come out for us tonight. You can definitely snuggle up in here, it’s really cozy! The Arctic temperatures aren’t just perfect for snuggling, though. Some like to make things more formal in this chapel made of
Ice and snow. Rue Niemi tells us that couples come from all over the world to tie the knot here. A couple from the Netherlands are about to get married, and Rue is taking care of the finishing touches. This is totally unique. You can’t ever recreate this –
It’ll never be the same two years in a row, and it’s just a beautiful place and just outstanding for photographs. Shortly before the ceremony, husband-to-be John is visibly nervous, but not because of the wedding. It’s more a question of whether his thermal underwear will fit under his wedding suit. We didn’t experience so
Much cold: you dress for it. So now, I’m actually quite hot now. But we’ll see how it turns out outside, but the clothing is a little bit different. And here comes the bride, Marzena, being pulled along by a reindeer. She, too, is fighting the cold. I’m freezing!
No matter how brightly the flame of love may be burning, things have to go a little fast here. The ceremony in the ice chapel lasts a quarter of an hour. No one could have stood the cold much longer, and there’s some relief when the rings are finally slipped onto the frosty fingers.
It was a great moment for the kids and their friends, but it was extremely cold in there! How many layers do you have on? Nothing! One! Lisa and Paul, on the other hand, have a few more layers on. They’re heading out tonight to look for the northern lights.
These huskies are setting out into the dark with them. And the couple are in luck: They do get to experience the unique play of colors that draws so many lovers to the Arctic north.
Romance is blossoming in Lapland’s polar region. Couples come here to tie the knot in an ice chapel. Spectacular northern lights replace fireworks, and husky sleds take the place of a horse drawn carriage.

From Panama City I wish a Happy and prosperous New Year 2024. DW is one of my favorite channels, since the journalists are so excellent and have professional ethics. It doesn't compare to Latin American journalism. I hope I marry a Nordic man. Regards Gadski

The origin of Santa Claus begins to know that it came from Finland. Any fool people also don't know that Santa Claus in Finland they called "Joulupukki", but there are other kinds of "Pukki" because people don't know what the word "Pukki" means. You may know or may not want to know that the word may mean "scapegoat" or actually "syntipukki".
