Governments themselves aren’t very cheap either.
But it makes politicians tens of thousends. So it’s not all bad.
One side loses (you make up for the loss via higher taxes, cuts to healthcare, social services, infrastructure etc.) and one side gains (100 meter yachts anyone?)
You can’t please everyone so pleasing the 1% is status quo.

When you read the elaborate schemes used to hack the tax code you have to admire the cleverness. If the people writing the laws were half as smart and motivated as those evading them this would not be a problem.
For many years the public workers that fight tax fraud have seen their numbers reduced and their capability of fighting corporations decimated.
More investment in fighting tax evasion would bring more money back that it will cost. And the criminals would pay.
