Die größte Schlange der Welt wurde im Amazonas-Regenwald erschossen – nur einen Monat nachdem sie von Wissenschaftlern entdeckt wurde

  1. Can we start chemically castrating poachers? Seems like the sort of evil that needs weeding out of the gene pool.

  2. I fucking hate this app update where you can’t see the thumbnail picture enlarged anymore, you have to go to the article.

  3. The snake was left behind so potentially it was locals once they learned it was there.

  4. Humans: “Why do the scientists don’t trust us?”

    Scientists: “Why don’t you listen?”

Humans: “Because what you say is uncomfortable and we don’t trust you.”

Scientists: “Which is why we don’t trust you.”

  5. The article is misleading or just plain wrong. The snake was not shot in the Amazon rainforest but on Bonito, Mato Grosso. The region is famous for its beauty and a very popular tourist region, and it’s also not a rainforest but a Savanah (Cerrado) vegetation.

Source: Am brazilian. We are more than just rainforest or Amazon.

  6. This is why scientists didn’t disclose the location of the world’s oldest tree.

Some fuckup would probably make it into a coffee table, or build a road through it…

  7. “’I have heard from various sources that she was shot dead, although there is still no official confirmation on the cause of death. I’m so sad and so angry at the same time. How sick do you have to be to do this to such a beautiful and unique animal?’ he said.”

Hopefully there was some mix up in communication and she wasn’t shot. Either way, it’s sad that such a unique specimen is now lost.

  8. People in the amazon kill any large snake they find. I worked there for years and the number of people who killed a snake because “it was trying to kill me” is quite high. I had one lady hide her kids inside because she was afraid a 6ft snake would eat them. Its just ignorance

  9. A lot of bs. The photo is from the dutch scientist who found the snake and it had different dna compared to the known normal species. Hence catogorized as a new species. Not the only one in exintence, just that now it appeared to have different dna structure while presumptions were it belonged to the same species. but that has nothing to do with the world’s largest snake. Anacoda’s are the world’s largest snake by weight, not lenght. And maybe the world largest snake was shot, or this one. But nothing to do with one another, but sad in both cases. But i am judging from a far. I can imagine a local sees it as a threat.

  10. From another post about this from another user

“There is a lot of wrong information in this report. The anaconda Ana Júlia was a much-loved snake here in my city, where she lived nearby, a mascot of the region. The investigation by the environmental police and biologists from the federal university did not find any puncture wounds or injuries. She apparently died of natural causes. She lived in the Pantanal, a flooded region that is more than 2000 km from the Amazon. The Dutch researchers who are mentioned in the report did not discover her, Ana Júlia had already been known in the region for more than 10 years, which is a lot for an anaconda that lives in the wild.”

  11. > World’s largest snake named Ana Julia’s death is being mourned by scientists

“Ana Julia’s death” is a weird name, but ok
